Chapter Twelve

Six months later, I see an advertisement in the back of the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper about doing a one-year working holiday visa in Ito, Japan. I apply for the position and attend an interview and get accepted. Later I get a phone call saying that the man Mr Wheeler will allocate me to a large group of Australians who will work together in a five-star hotel in Ito, Japan.

I say, “Alright.”

“Good, then I hope you’ll enjoy your trip. But before you go, I want you to all meet together in my office,” said Mr Wheeler.

“OK,” I replied then hung up the phone.

At Mr Wheeler’s office, I arrive early and sit down on a couch. In front of me further up sits Jonathan Wheeler who I later find out is a cousin of Mr Wheeler and is originally from Perth. He had worked in the mining companies of Western Australia before applying for this one-year working holiday visa in Japan. He stares at me intensely and I feel a little uncomfortable at his stare. Jonathan Wheeler has dark brown hair and blue eyes and considers himself Tom Cruise, the Hollywood actor. Jonathan Wheeler left school in Year 10 and later was to say that he had to teach the high school teacher who taught sex education what sex education is actually about and that she didn’t know what she was talking about. Jonathan Wheeler is a few years older than me at age twenty-six and was born in the Year of the Snake. He is a Sagittarius and is the youngest of three sons.

Beside me sits Tony Cutler, a tall, blond Australian man with blue eyes originally from Newcastle. Tony Cutler is aged nineteen who will turn twenty years old the following month and is born in the Year of the Rat and is a Cancer. He is the middle son of three boys in his family. In front of me sits Sean Vagg who is one day younger than me and is the younger son of two boys and is a Scorpio born in the Year of the Earth Monkey like myself and is twenty-three years old and lives in Davidson, Sydney. Sean has dark brown hair and green, blue eyes and is muscular with a lean build and I feel uncomfortable as he sits and watches me and I get the distinct feeling to watch out for this one and to be wary of Sean Vagg.

In the corner of the room sits Raymond Churchill who is auburn haired and has a moustache and is the older of two sons with a half-brother who is blond. Raymond Churchill is the oldest man of the group at age twenty-eight and is a Virgo. He was born in the Year of the Rabbit but wishes that he was born in the Year of the Dragon. Raymond Churchill is originally from Wollongong. In another corner sits Zac Cochrane who is the youngest male and is the eldest son of his family and has two younger sisters.
