“Did you get everything that you need,” Jace asked as I got back into the limo. The lawyer was very helpful, and I now had a copy of the papers I filed to have Kai’s charges removed. Jace had been surprisingly on board when I told him I wanted Kai’s record expunged. He said it was better for all of us if that happened, and although I agreed with him, I couldn’t help wondering what else was going on. As with Kai, I worried there was an ulterior motive for their actions.

The plane landed much earlier than expected, so he had the driver bring us straight to the lawyer’s office. How he got an appointment for me so quickly was another Jace mystery.

“Yeah, they printed off all the paperwork and had me sign it but said it could take some time to get through the system and that I might need to speak to a Judge, but the ball is rolling.”

Settling beside him in the back of the limo, he tapped on the divider, and we pulled away. Jace wrapped an arm around my shoulders but kept typing on his phone.

“Thanks for bringing me here and helping when I know you’re not Kai’s biggest fan.”

“What gave it away?” He teased. “But you’re welcome. I’ve dealt with a few lawyers over the last few years. You get to know the good ones.” His eyes lifted to mine and then went back to his screen.

His jaw was tight, and he was glaring at his screen. “Everything okay?”

“Just typical disagreement stuff with Allen, our tour dates and locations. I only agreed to do certain countries and dates, but now he wants us to go to Southeast Asia for six months. I’m not doing that. I strategically planned everything so I could come home at least a couple of days a month.”

“What do the other guys want to do?”

“They don’t care and will follow my lead on this,” Jace said.

“Then stick to what you have. He can’t change it if you don’t agree. Offer to do three weeks and no more.”

“Yeah, I think this is going to be a phone call argument,” he said, turning off his phone as more conversation bubbles popped up. “Now he can’t annoy me for a few minutes.”

Jace laid his head back on the seat, and I cuddled into his side. The short trip had been a whirlwind of excitement, and I was still processing all that had happened.

“Is it normal for the two of you to fight this much? It seems to be all you do.” I asked, my voice soft. Something was off about him, but I couldn’t put my finger on what it was that bothered me. Allen had well-laid plans for Jace’s career, and he always found a way to let me know I was messing with them when no one else could see or hear him.

“Things have changed. I can’t even explain it. I don’t know if it’s cause we made such a quick rise to the top or if it’s something else, but he’s been strange recently,” Jace said.
