Letter #16: Written on June 9th at 7:09 p.m.

Officer Visconti showed up again at my front door. I didn’t recognize him at first. The last time I saw him I was bawling my eyes out because he’d just informed me the love of my life had been murdered. But when he spoke, I knew his voice. He’s got a thick accent—like he’s from Queens or the Bronx. I don’t know the difference. He could be from Boston for all I know. I just know he sounds like he’s some tough guy, but then he says the nicest things like, “I came by because I was worried about you.” Only it sounds like “I’s came by cuz I’s worried aboutcha.” It’s kind of hard not to laugh. But I don’t want to be rude, especially since the guy had good intentions.
