CASSIDY
I said goodbye to Neecey and approached Liam on less than steady feet. But at least I didnât teeter despite the hum of alcohol in my system. The pina colada had gone down smoothly but not enough to have put me off my game.
And the damn man greeted me with a hug and a kiss hot enough to sear every thought out of my brain.
âHello, my darling wife,â he murmured. âIâve missed you. You look wonderful.â
I automatically went to tell him not to call me that in public and shut myself up two seconds later. âItâs good to see you too. And thank you.â
I forced myself to say the comment rather than automatically negate his compliment.
Liam waved to Neecey before guiding me toward the front desk.
âI havenât checked in yet,â he told me. âI wanted to find you first.â
He placed his arm over my shoulder, and I had to admit: I loved how it made me feel. Cherished and, yes, small. Iâd never be a delicate woman, no matter how I worked out or dieted. Liam didnât care.
âAre you hungry?â he asked.
âIf you knew me, then youâd already know the answer to that question. Iâm always hungry.â
He made no fat jokes. Instead, he smiled at me before turning that megawatt grin at the front desk clerk. âAmazing. Iâm glad because Iâm starving to death, and I need to eat soon.â
âYou have something in mind,â I stated. âI know you.â
âIâve done my research. Itâs someplace I know youâll like where Iâll actually get enough to eat.â His gaze turned hot when it landed on me once again. âAnd dessert later.â
I shivered under the weight of those words.
The next day, I went to his game wearing the jersey heâd gifted me at long last, and I thought the man would break down in tears when he saw me in it for the first time. Thankfully for me, wearing it didnât feel like a concession. I actually wanted to support him, and it only had a small part to do with how heâd been treated at his last game.
It did feel a little too strange sitting there, rooting for the Raiders rather than my own home team, but the jersey helped. So did sitting in the private ownerâs box with Fia and Tori. They were the only two wives who consistently traveled to every game with their boys.
âThis is nice, isnât it?â Fia sipped a mug of hot cocoa with the words âWorld's Hottest Writerâ on the side. A gift from Dom, she told me when I asked, and the cocoa piled high with marshmallows. âNot having to sit down there in the freezing cold with the rest of the hockey wives?â
âIâm not sure I belong in either place just yet,â I told them both.
Fia waved me away. âThatâs all in your head, girl. You belong right here with us. The same way anyone else married into the Raiders would be. And even if you werenât married to Liam, youâd still be a friend.
