What are you doing on December 17/18/19? Fancy seeing Ophelia at the Tate?

I have to admit, the grin shooting across my face was gloriously painful, the muscles being stretched to the limit. Lifting my head, I was met by blue eyes looking at me intently from across the room. It might have been my imagination, but I thought she looked a little nervous. In what universe could she honestly think I would turn her down? And why did the sparkle begin to fade? Fuck. My brain seemed to kick start and I nodded enthusiastically, heaving a sigh of relief when I saw the light reappear in her eyes, followed by a grin that could have rivalled my own on the stupidity scale.

“Okay?” she mouthed. “You want to come?”

I nodded again and held up the paper, wanting nothing more than to run up to her and give her a kiss of confirmation.

“Good.”

Her wink made my heart pitter patter even faster.

“My pubic lice are wrong.” Sophie mumbled from next to me. “They look like wasps.”

Ignored her, I returned Diana’s wink, holding eye contact until someone called for Diana’s attention.

“Jess? I said my lice look like wasps.”

I knew she was staring at the side of my head with an expression of faux sadness, but I didn’t look at her. Picking up my pencil, I tipped my head towards her pad before uttering, “Maybe you shouldn’t put the stripes in. Colour in the bodies instead.”

A few seconds passed before I heard her, “Oh yeah, cheers.”

God, I loved Sophie. A quick look over at Diana, who at that moment lifted her head from a student’s work and graced me with one of her wonderful smiles, made another thought flash through my mind. Heaven help me, I was beginning to think the L word was creeping not too softly into describing the feelings I had for Diana Sullivan. The worrying thing was, I didn’t even know if I was still her girlfriend or not.

Back to the drawing board. Literally and metaphorically.
