Chapter 5

Caleb took out the towel he had stuffed in his old tennis shorts and wiped his brow. The temperatures were already hitting the mid-nineties and it wasn’t even July yet.

“Want some water?” asked Sebastian.

“Yeah, that would be awesome. I’ll get these last three boxes inside. Why don’t you just go in and rest away from this godawful heat.”

“Sure you don’t need help?”

“I can take care of it. Go on in.” Caleb watched Sebastian go inside. As he turned to pick up the large box on the flatbed of his truck, he felt his phone vibrate.

He saw Joan’s text. Where are you?

Caleb texted back. At Sebastian’s.

Can I swing by and talk?

Caleb stared at the text and questioned why his sister would want to come by Sebastian’s place to talk, but he didn’t have a reason to say no. Sure. He texted the address and braced a large box against his shirtless chest. Before he got to the door, he heard a vehicle behind him and saw a Jeep with four or five women. They had driven around several minutes ago and seemed to be lost.

Caleb saw Sebastian breaking down a box. “Hey, Joan wants to stop by.”

“Oh, is she going to help unpack?”

“I didn’t tell her I was moving in but guess she’ll find out now.” Caleb opened the box he carried to see what was inside. It was his gag box.

“You ashamed of me?” asked Sebastian who said it with a smile in his voice.

“Not at all. Come here and let me show you how I’m not ashamed of you.” Caleb moved close to Sebastian, and pulled out a water gun from the box he’d just opened and lunged for Sebastian, who darted between boxes.

“Your sister’s coming soon!” shouted Sebastian, holding his arms and hands out as Caleb pointed the water gun. “Don’t spray me!”

Caleb laughed. “There’s no water in here.”

“You ass.”

“Come here,” beckoned Caleb. Sebastian eyed Caleb warily. “I’m not going to do anything” offered Caleb. “Trust me.”

Sebastian moved closer and Caleb grabbed him in a hug and kissed him, holding Sebastian’s face with one hand and rubbed a thumb on Sebastian’s cheek. He positioned Sebastian to be right in front of his joke box. They kissed for a moment until Caleb was able to secure what he wanted and then Caleb broke it off. “See? Nothing to worry about it.” As he spoke, Caleb took something he had in his hand and put it down the back of Sebastian’s shorts.

“Shit! What is that?” Sebastian pulled it out from his shorts. “Fake dog poop?”

Caleb turned red from laughter, amused by the indignation of Sebastian.

“You’re horrible and just you wait and see.” Sebastian grabbed the water gun that Caleb had dropped earlier and walked to the kitchen. “I’m going to get you now.”

Caleb fished into the box again and took out a water gun, Uzi-type and waved it. “Mine’s bigger than yours.”

Sebastian shot back. “Mine’s going to have water, and yours won’t.”

They both heard a knock on the door and Sebastian and Caleb looked at each other.
