When Josh jerked awake in the middle of the night, he had no clue where he was. Gradually, his racing heart slowed. Had he been dreaming? A nightmare?
Then reason returned. And a grateful embrace of reality. Layla was in his arms. Soft, warm, deeply unconscious. She made the cutest little snuffling noises when she slept.
He cataloged his physical state. Sexually sated, but with a boner that could pound nails. Still unsure about the future except to know that at this very moment an anonymous hotel room with this very specific woman was exactly where he wanted to be.
They had fallen asleep early. Now heâd had enough rest to be energized already. But it would be selfish to wake Layla.
Surreptitiously, he peered at his watch. One thirty in the morning. His stomach was growling, and he needed to visit the john. Carefully, he moved a feminine arm. Then a leg. Layla grumbled in her sleep, turned away from him, but didnât wake up.
While he took care of business and washed up, all he thought about was making love to her again. He was rusty about dating rules. Could a guy get in trouble for coaxing a drowsy woman into having sex?
When he rejoined her, she recoiled from his cold feet. He moved them, but drew her closer, spooning her and filling his hands with her breasts. The curves and valleys were delightful. He could almost be satisfied with this.
But his body urged him to take more.
He wanted more. In fact, he trembled with the need to be inside her.
âLayla.â He whispered her name, willing her to wake up. âLayla, sweetheart. Can you open your eyes?â
It seemed like eons, but it was probably only a minute or two.
She rolled onto her back and shoved the hair out of her eyes. âWhat?â
That single grumpy syllable didnât bode well for his plans. âI was hoping you might want to...you know...â He stroked her center.
Layla made a noise that was halfway between a protest and a moan.
âWas that a yes?â he asked hopefully.
âDo you have something against sleep?â Her sarcastic question was clearly rhetorical.
He kissed her, sliding his tongue deep into her mouth. Then he nuzzled her nose with his. âHow can I sleep when a gorgeous, naked woman is in my bed driving me insane with her incredible body?â
âOver the top, Banks. Over the top.â
He rubbed his erection against her thigh. âIâm dead serious. So serious.â
Because there was a light burning in the bathroom, and he had left the door cracked, he could see the grin that finally lifted the corners of her mouth, even though her eyes remained stubbornly closed. âSingle-minded, arenât you?â
He played with her breasts one at a time, teasing the nipples. Plumping the curves. âIâm gonna need a clear affirmative from you, Ms. Grandin. Audible consent. Please.â
Finally, her long lashes lifted. Her blue eyes looked darker in the dim light. âYes, Mr. Banks. I agree to have sex with you. Under one condition.â
He tensed. âWhat is it?â
âYouâve got to feed me afterward.
