CHAPTER 10 - Premonition Part 2

“Mom?” Clain whispers again. A sense of safety and comfort engulfs him as his rage subsides. The feeling of motherly love he hadn’t felt since childhood yet has somehow visited him within this nightmarish dimension. An innocent smile cracks across his flustered face, calming him a moment as his shoulders begin to relax. His eyes close. Within the thick grey fog, he takes a deep breath. Before he can exhale, a shrieking scream echoes through the cold air, forcing him to remember where he is. “Fila?!” he shouts as his eyes spring open. Just a few feet from him stands Fila, staring at him with tears cascading down her cheeks. Rising high above them, an illuminated cherry blossom tree glows within the darkness of the murky swamp. Her face is painted in streaks of blood and anger. She screams, “You did this to me!” violently gusting away the trees surrounding them.

Clain’s eyes widen in terror as his jaw drops. He struggles to say anything. “Fila, I…” he attempts, with nothing further to say.

His eyes gravitate toward the cherry blossom tree beginning to rapidly decay. Its leaves start to brown and crumble to the ground as they begin morphing, changing shape rapidly.

“Behind you!” Clain shouts in fear, attempting to climb to his feet when he realizes the tree is transforming into a floating, multi faced, two armed monster. The monster begins to eerily glide forward above Fila, while each of its faces’ stare downward at him silently. The feeling of his mother’s presence returns as comfort radiates heavily from the monster as its faces whisper, whimpering out from the mouths’ of it’s multiple faces. Clain tries listening closely, attempting to understand what they are saying. “Mom? Is that you?! Are you in there?! What the hell is going on?!” he shouts at the monster. The whispers turn to screams as all of its faces yell at him in unison.
