Zander’s gaze strayed past Paige and the blonde and came to a stop on Colbie. Her entrance was as though another candle had been lit. Everything and everyone disappeared. She had changed from the shorts she’d worn earlier to a black front halter romper that clutched her tempting curves in a way that was elegant but feminine. Her lips were full and glossy red in the fading light of the restaurant. Her hair was pulled back into a bun, giving him a full view of her neck, face—flawless as a diamond.

She looked so damn good. She had the posture of a ballet dancer—strong, erect, and graceful.

An overpowering memory zoomed through his brain—her body on top of him, their mouths feverishly seeking, tasting. A deep shudder shook his body. The military taught him a thing or two about life, mastering his mood, watching his words, sticking to a schedule, managing money wisely, maintaining good health—for the most part, restraint . . . well, he’d been good at that until Colbie came into his life. In all his lifetime, he’d never reacted like this to a woman, and one he barely knew, no less.

Their eyes immediately met and held. His heart—the betrayer—did a slow roll in his chest. Paige said something to the other women. They nodded and headed to the bar where he stood frozen. As they did, Zander noticed every man who glanced in their direction. Not that he blamed them. All three were beautiful. Nor could he ignore the burning sensation in his stomach when a few gazes lingered a second too long on Colbie.

“She is gorgeous.” Rafa placed a heavy hand on Zander’s shoulder. “According to Max, you said she was free. Is that right?”

“She’s off limits.” Just to make sure his brother got the message loud and clear, he jabbed him with an elbow. Rafa chuckled, and knowing his brother, he was probably not the least bit bothered.

“We have company.” Paige’s gaze slid from one brother to the other, as if silently warning them to behave or feel her wrath later. “Zander, you already know Colbie very well. This is Delia. Ladies, meet the Serrano brothers.”

“Serrano.” Delia eyed them over, curiosity in her expression. “As in grew up in Somerville, Serrano.”

Rafa lifted his scotch to her. “That’s us. Do we know each other?” He eyed her over. “Although I can’t imagine forgetting you.”

Paige rolled her eyes. Rafa pretended she didn’t exist. A long-established rapport between his older brother and the fourth musketeer.

“No.” Delia extended a dainty hand to Rafa.

Rafa brought Delia’s offered hand to his lips. Paige turned her head and looked around the room for a minute.

“Care to buy me a drink?” Delia said directly to Rafa.

Since Zander was a man whose ear had been trained to recognize bullshit a mile away, he examined Delia a little closer. She was small framed and looked city-slicked in jeans that fit her like a pair of snug gloves, white tee, a cropped linen jacket, and a layered multi-color beaded necklace adding a pop of color to her outfit.
