Kasauni

I could barely breathe.

My insides were still on edge.

“Come on Kasauni, pull yourself together,” I coached while pacing back and forth. “Don’t let this man get to you like this. He’s not even worth it.”

“I know you don’t believe that.”

I spun around, surprised to see Mr. Mercedes standing in the doorway.

“Deidric, What the hell are you doing back here?” I rushed past him and quickly shut the door. “You can’t be here. Matter of fact, why are you in this building?”

“Because I needed to see you. I told you that.”

“Yeah, and I told you that we shouldn’t communicate with each other anymore.”

“Clearly, I don’t agree with that.”

“I don’t care what you agree with.”

He moved in closer to me. “Don’t be like that, Kasauni. I’ve missed you.”

I paused for a moment, my senses locked in on the smell of his cologne. It was a refreshing scent. The kind that was able to sweep you off your feet before you even realized you were no longer standing.

His hands made their way into my hair, and he caressed my scalp slowly. A thing he did when he wanted to awaken the parts of me that were once only meant for him.

My eyes drifted shut and for more than a few seconds, I was lost in a trance, completely unaware of what was happening before me.

“No…stop,” I said as I forced myself away from his grasp. “We can’t be doing this. First of all, your girlfriend is right outside. Second, I’m with someone.”

“Hmph…yeah, I heard.”

“Yet and still, your ass is here. Why is that Deidric?”

“Because we both know that what we have isn’t something that you can just walk away from. I don’t care how hard you try.”

“What we had? Deidric, we didn’t have anything. We had great sex. That’s it!”

“Wow, so that’s how you want to play it?”

I scoffed. “I’m not playing it like anything. You and I fucked…a lot. We didn’t go on dates, we didn’t talk on the phone…we’ve been over this.”

“But what if I want to change all of that?”

“There’s no changing all of that. We’re both in relationships.”

“And?”

“What the fuck do you mean, and?”

“I’m just saying, if you want to continue entertaining your baby daddy, then do what you do. But we don’t have to stop what we’re doing.”

I eyed him in confusion.

There’s no way he’s serious.

Taking a deep breath, I held up my hand. “Just stop talking. You sound ridiculous right now.”

“What’s ridiculous about wanting to be with you?”

“Everything! You’re literally in my store with your baby mama, on her birthday, trying to convince me to cheat on my man with you. What kind of shit is that?”

“Just hear me out.”

“I don’t want to hear you out. I’ve heard enough,” I said shaking my head. “You’re not about to get me to go down this road with you a second time. I’ll admit, I knew what I was getting myself into when we started messing around. I was caught up in the history we had together. But I had to face reality.
