Alistair
After Brandon storms off the field, Fergus instructs the men to start some warmups and takes me aside.
“What the hell has gotten in to you two?” Fergus asks.
I ignore him as I straighten my shirt under my armor and readjust my loose straps that were pulled amok during the fight. I rub at my face where Brandon’s fist nailed me and check my fingers for blood.
“Am I bleeding?” I ask.
Fergus glares at me, “Seriously, Alistair answer me?”
I’m still vibrating from the fight and crack my knuckles as I continue to take inventory of where I hurt. There is a lump forming on the back of my head where I connected with Brandon’s face after the man put me in a head lock. I rub at it and probe the tender spot.
Fergus is becoming frustrated at my lack of response and grabs my arm to get my attention. I yank away from him and narrow my eyes.
“Unless you want a piece too, I suggest you keep your hands off me.”
“What happened out there?” he asks again.
“He doesn’t listen and then he’s a bloody smart ass about it too,” I grip my side as a sharp pain racks through my body. I don’t even remember being hit there, “He needed some sense knocked into him.”
“Brandon’s been a smart ass since day one with you. You thrive on it, Alistair, it’s your guys’ little game. Are you trying to tell me it bothers you now?”
I make indication to my men down the field, “I have a session to run. We are done here.”
Fergus exhales defeat, “Fine, don’t talk to me, go run your damn drills.”
I start walking away from Fergus then remember something and turn back, “He’s suspended for five days, make sure he doesn’t step foot on this field. I’ll have the papers drawn up immediately after training and you can bring them to him.”
Fergus sighs and nods as he goes to rejoin his assigned men.
After the training session ends, I leave the field, speaking to no one. I worked the men far harder than I usually do and they are none too happy with me, or Brandon for that matter, seeing as it is Brandon’s fault in their minds that they suffered tonight. On my way back to my solar, I’m stopped twice by men wanting me or needing me to take care of one thing or another and I blow them each off consecutively. This day has gone from bad to worse and I’m not in the mood for anyone. Once in my solar, I slam the door and head to my bar table to pour myself a drink. The bottle only has enough left in it to fill my cup halfway. Groaning, I head back to the door. Noticing a maid servant passing by the end at the end of the hall, I call out to her. She scampers over to me, falling over her feet in her haste to serve her master. I roll my eyes.
She gives me
