It had been the best day Jay had in a long time. His face hurt from smiling. He swore his soul was satiated in a way it hadn’t been in years. Being with Callan was both exhilarating and soothing. He didn’t want Callan to go home. Jay kept creating new reasons for him to stay.

“You pick our movie and I’ll order the food.”

“Oooh. What are we eating? I’m starved.”

Jay shot him a mischievous look. “Do you trust me to pick something for you?”

Callan shrugged. The shirt he wore belonged to Jay. It was too big and slid down his shoulder at the motion. A different hunger rose inside Jay. He was already addicted. “Of course, I trust you.”

Callan’s claim pulled him back to the moment. “Excellent.” Even Jay heard the childish evil plotting in his tone.

Callan groaned. “Should I be scared? I don’t like spicy food.”

Jay settled in, ordering way too much food from a hole-in-the-wall hamburger joint most people didn’t know existed. “Don’t worry. You should only fear being totally turned off by how much I eat.”

A bark of laughter burst from Callan. “Don’t worry. I live with Cato, remember? I know how much y’all work out and the appetites that go with it.”

Jay looked up from his phone and winked. “Exactly. Since you’re my current workout, I need to fortify myself.”

Callan snorted.

Jay smiled at the sound.

“Well, if I might end up with any type of food, you can watch an animated movie with me. It’s probably best you learn I’m a complete child, early in this relationship.” Callan snapped his mouth closed, as if he realized what he said.

Jay searched his heart. Was this a relationship? Would it be? He currently couldn’t imagine sleeping with anyone else after that amazing experience. Jay tried picturing what would happen if he saw Callan out with someone else. A murderous rage filled his chest. His eye twitched. He would cut that imaginary guy’s dick off. Jay needed to clear up any chance of that happening right the fuck now.

“Cartoons are my favorite. For future reference, and since you brought it up, you should also know I’m a horribly jealous bastard who doesn’t share.”

Callan looked his way. Something flashed in his eyes that made Jay’s mouth go dry. “And will I have to share?”

“Absolutely not.” Jay made sure Callan heard the seriousness in his tone. He wasn’t some teen who planned to ask Callan to go steady or some shit like that, but Callan was his. They needed to establish that.

Callan nodded. “Good.”

Jay nodded. “Great.”

They held each other’s stare. A smile exploded across their faces. Cato would probably never talk to him again. Jay couldn’t worry about that right now. For once, he was truly happy. He wouldn’t risk its tenuous threads by thinking about reality. Tomorrow would come soon enough. For now, he had found something amazing. He wouldn’t lose it.
