Moving On
Graeme watched from across the room as Brandt glided smoothly across the dance floor in the arms of a nice-looking man decked out in a purple, crushed-velvet pimp costume. There were some wild costumes at the Halloween dance party tonight, and Brandt looked extra hot in a tight sailor costume.
He hadnât seen the purple pimp before, but heâd immediately taken notice of the guy tonight. Heâd watched the guy check out Brandt, then finally work up the nerve to approach him for a dance. The man was clearly on the prowl for a hookup, and if there was one thing Graeme wanted, it was for Brandt to finally get laid again. Brandt really needed to move on with his life.
The man had been polite and pleasant. He seemed like a nice enough guy. Not at all predatory, pimp costume notwithstanding. Heâd be a good choice for Brandt tonight, and they looked good together.
It had been just over a year since Graeme had left Brandt, and it had been a hard year on him. Hell, it had been hard on both of them, and if Graeme could fix it, he would, but he didnât know how. Thankfully, Brandt had been doing better these past few months, but he still wasnât getting out like he should. At least their friends, Jason and John, had been able to convince him to attend this party with them.
Graeme craned his neck as the couple moved smoothly around the room. The purple pimp squeezed Brandtâs ass and pressed their hips together. Brandt reacted quickly, placing both hands squarely on the manâs chest and heaving. The man let go immediately.
Shaking his head in frustration, Graeme had to stop himself from crossing the floor to talk some sense into Brandt. Wouldnât do any good, anyway.
The song ended and Brandt stalked to the edge of the dance floor. He looked wretched with his face pinched and his brows drawn together. The purple pimp stood still and watched him go, his mouth hanging open and a quizzical look in his eyes.
Graeme moved closer to Brandt, wanting to be near his former lover. He desperately wished there was something, anything, he could do to help Brandt, but what? Heâd already tried everything he could think of.
Jason and John came off the dance floor, looking sexy in their matching pirate costumes. Their brows were raised as they approached Brandt. He got a hug from John first, then Jason.
Jason said, âBrandt, you know we love you, right?â
Brandt just nodded and stared at the ground.
Jason looked at John for help, and John took over. âBrandt, honey, we know how much you loved Graeme, and I know this probably sounds trite, but itâs time to move on. Itâs been over a year. Please, let us help you, hon.â
âLove, John, not âlovedâ. I love him, now and forever.â Brandtâs forlorn reply and his look of hopelessness tore at Graemeâs heart.
Fuck. Graeme couldnât stop himself from reaching out to Brandt. âI love you, too, sweetheart, now and forever, but theyâre right.
