CHAPTER 4

Kip’s forehead puckered curiously. Amber never ceased to amaze him, and kept life interesting, but even he didn’t have a clue where she was headed with this one. “How can they get married on Christmas Eve if we’re stuck here?”

Her gaze cut to Jason. “Hey, Moore. I know I had a lot to drink, but if I’m not mistaken, didn’t you tell Ellen she was going to hell because of her elfish ways during our drinking game last night?”

Jason frowned. “Yes, and the irritating elf threatened to sue me if I started to preach at her.”

“Exactly!” Ellen shot her a death glare, and Amber quickly amended, “Not that you’re irritating, Ellen. I just meant the Jason part.” Amber approached Jason and massaged his shoulders where he sat hunched over his smartphone. A broad grin spread across her lips. “And how exactly would you be able to do that, McPreachy?”

His eyes widened, and the first smile Kip had seen the entire weekend lit up Jason’s face as he responded, “Because I’m an ordained minister in my church.”

“Bingo!” Amber said, with a sparkle in her eyes. “Last time I checked, ordained ministers can perform weddings, can they not?”

“That they can,” he responded, looking impressed.

Amber beamed, and Kip admitted she won big this time, and he couldn’t be more proud of her. Those other guys were idiots to let her go just because she intimidated them. She was special. A rare gem among women, and any man would be lucky to call her his own.

“You mean…?” Samantha started to say but couldn’t get the rest of the words out through her trembling lips.

“Yes, Samantha Darling, I still get to make you my wife on the day you changed my life forever,” Nathan finished, and then kissed her soundly on the mouth.

Ellen cheered and clapped her hands.

Jason rolled his eyes and tossed back a shot.

While Kip stared at the most amazing woman he’d met in a long time, standing tall and proud and beautiful before him. His heart squeezed painfully, and he suddenly realized she made him want a hell of a lot more than friends-with-benefits from her. She made him want the gravy, and that scared the hell out of him. She had the capability of cutting him wide open and making him bleed far more deeply than his ex-wife ever had. He should walk away. No, he should run and never look back. Here he was afraid she might not want a one night stand, but now he was terrified she’d never want anything more. Hell, he wasn’t even sure what he really wanted either. He just knew he wanted her, and couldn’t imagine letting her go anytime soon. He didn’t know for sure what he was going to do about it, but he knew damn well where he was going to start.

She held out her hand. “Truce?”

He folded her hand in his much larger one and shook, but didn’t let go as he responded, “Come on, friend. We have a wedding to plan.
