Chapter Eleven
Brian and Samantha carried the tray containing fruit, cheese, crackers and wine to the living room and sat down on the floor by the fireplace. Neither of them had bothered to dress after their shower and were wearing their robes. They sat comfortably feeding each other fruit and just enjoying each otherâs company.
Samantha could not get over just how comfortable she felt around Brian after only one day. Sitting here with him, she felt like they had been doing this for years instead of it having been over twenty years since they had last done this. The day before he had left, Samantha and Brian had stayed at a cabin to spend one last night together. Right now, seemed to be a repeat of that night except that now they were older and more aware of each other.
As if reading her mind, Brain said. âRemember my last night here before I went to take on the world? That cabin we stayed in up at the ski hill? It was so small compared to this one and not nearly as nice.â
âI was just thinking of that, itâs like you read my mind,â she answered.
âReally? I only thought of that because we pretty much did exactly what we are doing now.â
âThat is exactly what I just thought. I thought we were repeating that night.â She looked at him intently. âAre you sure you canât read minds because you just said the exact two things I was just thinking of?â
âHonestly, I canât,â he said laughing. âAlthough it does make you wonder. Maybe we are more alike than we knew. Or maybe, just maybe, weâre soulmates?â he added the last quietly.
âMaybe,â she replied softly. âOnly time will tell.â
âYes, time.â He thought wondering just how much time it would take for Samantha to realize that she was meant to be with him. He knew deep down that she was the one for him and that he was done searching for the woman he wanted to spend his life with. He may have only spent a little over a day with her, but in his gut, he knew it to be true. Now he just had to show her that in the time they had left before the storm ended.
âSo, tell me, did you find what you were looking for all those years ago when you left to see the world?â
Brian thought about that for a moment before he answered. âIn some ways yes, I did. I spent the first few months travelling across Canada stopping at different places for a while and in some cases taking on odd little jobs to help finance my trip. I met a lot of amazing people during this time and even made a few friends that I still keep in contact with. Once I reached the east coast I took a job on a fishing boat for a month and I have to admit that job was the worst one I ever had. I thought Iâd never get the smell of fish off me since I was always cleaning them.
