Carly had been on her way back to the rink when she’d taken a shortcut through this alley, never expecting to run into Vivian. A warmth had spread through Carly just at the sight of her.

Vivian had been looking down at her phone, and Carly’s steps had slowed as she took in the moment, letting her eyes rake over Vivian’s perfectly tailored black coat, her beige knit cap covering her dark hair that fell across her shoulders.

Carly had wanted a moment with Vivian out on the ice. Just a simple lap, side by side. A way to round off what had already been an amazing Christmas. But Vivian had hardly been down by the rink.

Running into her in this alley had more than made up for her absence though. Carly’s lips still tingled after that agonizingly brief kiss, but she wanted to know what Vivian was thinking.

And now she was going to find out. “Well?” Carly asked, her eyes searching Vivian’s, looking for some kind of sign that Carly had this right, that Vivian really wanted her. That it hadn’t just been an accidental kiss last night, fueled by alcohol and a certain touch of holiday spirit.

Carly suppressed a shudder when Vivian’s smooth palm ran over hers, their fingers linking, and Vivian lazily swiped her thumb over the side of Carly’s hand.

“I think,” Vivian said, her voice low, husky almost. “Infatuated might be more accurate.”

Carly couldn’t keep her lips from sliding into a smile. “Is that so?”

“Hmm.” Vivian’s other hand lightly rested on Carly’s cheek, the air between them charged.

“Do you think we should do something about that?” Carly asked, her voice just above a whisper.

Vivian’s eyes flickered down to Carly’s lips, and Carly had no idea how she was still standing. Her heart felt like it might jump out of her chest, but somehow, she’d managed to stay calm and not say anything too ridiculous.

Vivian Gardner’s hand was in hers, the other on her cheek, her thumb running over Carly’s bottom lip as they leaned in.

Carly’s eyes fluttered closed, her hand resting on Vivian’s neck as their lips parted in a slow, sensual kiss. A wave of heat ran through Carly’s body as they deepened the kiss, their tongues gliding over one another.

Last night had been like this. Unbelievably passionate. Quick to escalate. But Carly hadn’t been expecting it. She’d had no time to prepare. It had just happened. She’d acted on impulse. But tonight was different, their last kiss fresh on their minds, not even twenty-four hours old.

Carly had heard the jealousy in Vivian’s voice. She’d known that this could happen. She could almost feel the tension building between them, leading to this moment, and it was so much more than Carly could have ever imagined.

The chemistry was there, and since neither of them were shocked by what was happening, no one pulled away seconds later. Carly lost herself in the kiss, in the atmosphere, the snowflakes cold against her cheek, the quiet of the alley making her feel like they were the only ones in the world right now.
