“WHAT’S GOT YOU TICKING this time, tough guy?”

I frowned. Digan was mostly a pest when he had nothing to do.

“Try protocol therapy and you’ll find out.”

He whistled shaking his head as if I need a pity party from him.

“Did you get anything worth digging into?”

“I wish.”

I released with a sigh.

“Yeah, no luck either. I questioned up six persons on that damn list, nothing useful.”

“My bet is we’re dealing with somebody our victims’ killer son knew personally and maybe taught a few things though he isn’t as sloppy as him in fact our original Arson might’ve been his protégé to tell you the truth.”

I said more so to inner ponders slow running cases always made me riddle.

“No shit, from all I’ve seen this asshole is gunning for triple the heat Bassett had.”

“Screw it, can’t bother to think all that. Did you have lunch yet?”

He turned to me and asked I could swear spotted a look of desperate hope on him.

“Uh, no,” he grinned not his usual cause it was missing the smug to it, charm put in its place. I wasn’t being delusional. “There’s this great diner just up the street eats fantastic how’s say you join me, my treat.” His zeal was as off-putting as the offer. I lied and told him I planned on taking the break hour to catch up with old friend. He didn’t appear disappointed at least not judging by his demeanor. A casual male’s shrug and a ‘No problem, some other time,’ could’ve been a façade as he could very well guess I was lying. I had unsuppressed habit of observing Digan on many occasions just for kicks. He was the type of man easy to upset especially when he screws up and he did a lot, which cop hasn’t? But not every cop had a shot at getting a Sergeant’s badge. Could always tell he was an overachiever and I never liked it about him that among things once we had been put on same team. Working with Digan I got more contradictions and disapproving glances from than George. Sometimes he did better than George, the fucker would back flip if was ever told that I’m positive. He’s been doing excellent job these few years proving he’d make a suitable leader. He was shoe in for the position after witnessing George’s distaste this morning with me he must’ve figured it was sure-shot his for the taking coherent for his eerie happy mood.
