The pilotâs voice came through the planeâs intercom. âTime to snap on those seat belts. Weâre coming in for the landing.â
Dylan put on his while watching Charm snap on hers. He refused to glance over at Seth whoâd been eyeing him with concern for the entire flight. Dylan had little to say while Charm and Seth chatted amicably the entire time.
Shifting in his seat to glance out the window, Dylan wondered if heâd made a mistake by inviting Charm. After his grandparentsâ deaths, the Red Flame had been his escape. He considered this his home and he returned whenever he wasnât on tour. If there was a long stretch in between his visits, Ren would call, check on him and then boldly declare it was time for him to come home for a spell.
âThat was a smooth landing, Seth. I need to compliment your pilot,â Charm said, her words breaking into Dylanâs thoughts. He glanced over at her. She wore a pair of jeans and a T-shirt that boldly proclaimed BORN AN OUTLAW. His breath had been snatched out of his throat the moment heâd arrived at the airport and had seen her. Heâd noticed other men noticing her as well. Theyâd probably been wondering just what kind of outlaw she was.
Seth chuckled and responded to her comment. âMy pilot enjoys getting compliments.â
Dylan had to agree with Charm. It had been a smooth landing. In fact, it had been a rather calm flight. âSo whatâs next with Elise?â he asked Seth.
âBecause she implicated Chrome, heâs been picked up for questioning. Of course, he denied knowing anything about it. Chances are he will make an attempt to reach out to you. When he does, donât take his call.â
Dylan nodded. âAnything else?â
âNo. Call me if anything new develops and I will do likewise with you.â
A short while later Dylan and Charm were walking down the steps of the plane. Ren had dropped off Dylanâs SUV and once heâd loaded their luggage they said their goodbyes to Seth.
âItâs June. Why is the temperature cool here?â Charm asked when he opened the vehicleâs door for her.
âThe altitude. The ranch is located in the mountains. Itâs not unusual to wear a jacket sometimes as late as mid-July.â
âSounds like Alaska,â she said.
Out of the corner of his eye Dylan watched Charm take in all she saw. âEverything here is so green, Dylan.â
He chuckled. âWe try to keep it that way. There are a lot of cattle to feed.â
âThatâs right, this is a cattle ranch. One of my Westmoreland cousins has a sheep ranch and a few others raise horses.â
He nodded. âRanching of any kind is a full-time job. My grandparents were lucky to have Ren. Now so am I,â he said.
âWhen was the last time you were here?â
âDuring the holidays. Although my grandparents arenât here, spending time on the Red Flame was a tradition my parents and I didnât want to end. It was nice because Iâd needed the break. Last year I was on the concert tour from hell.
