Chapter

Twenty-One

One of the men grabbed me, clutching my wrists tightly behind my back. He set his lips next to my ear, a chuckle erupting from deep inside.

“Do you like it rough, baby?” he asked.

“No,” I spat, my stomach clenching.

“Then, perhaps, you just haven’t had it done right to you,” he said. “Let me show you what you’re missing.”

I fought against him, twisting left and right, trying to wiggle myself free. “Let go of me, you fucking asshole!”

“Remy! No! Get out of here!” Charlie shouted, seemingly only first noticing it was me.

“This is going to be so much fun,” the man holding me said. “You ladies might not think you like it rough, but us men, we know how we like it. When I’m done with you, you’ll never want it any other way.”

“They’ll see,” another man hooted as he thrust toward Charlie.

I couldn’t get my arms free. The man holding me was a lot stronger, and he knew it. It seemed to be motivating him to hold me even tighter. He liked that I was fighting against him.

The surrounding shrubs rustled, but it wasn’t from a strong wind. It was Darkness’s imps peeking out at us, and I could see there were a lot of them surrounding us.

I could feel Darkness was there. Maybe he was feeding off of Charlie’s fear.

Behind a tree, I saw his eyes glowing in the shadows. Charlie had her back to where he stood, but if the other men had been paying attention to anything other than Charlie and me, they would have seen him.

In a blink, an imp shot out from its nearby hiding spot and bit the leg of the man holding me. It wasn’t enough to cause him to let go.

“What the fucking shit was that?” he asked, looking down at the empty space around his feet.

The imp scuttled into the shrub just as fast as it had jumped out. Another hopped out and did the same to another man, who reacted quicker and kicked the imp.

Darkness’s eyes beamed with a menacing glow. He was angry. And not like how he was angry in the closet with me… he was furious. Scary angry.

“What’s wrong with you two?” another man asked, his laugh sounding like a barking chihuahua. “Hallucinating or something?”

“Something bit me, dumbass,” the guy behind me bellowed so loudly into my ear it started to ring. “We need to get somewhere a bit more secluded.”

“I know a place,” one of the men shouted. “Old warehouse at the end of the block. Back door is broken.” He nudged the guy standing next to him. “Ask me how I know.”

The guy holding Charlie’s shoulders groaned. “Let’s get out of here, babe.”

“I’m not going anywhere with you,” Charlie roared.

“Put up a fight. Please put up a fight,” he said, smirking as he looked into her glassy eyes.

Darkness held his hands up to the sky, and rain poured down as if he’d turned on a faucet. A fine mist grew from the concrete, swirling up around our legs, stopping at my waist.
