Patrice didn’t notice she was stepping on a bloody trail.

It was too dark in the cabin.

Instead, she figured someone had spilled soda on the floor and that’s why her shoes were sticking on it. When she stepped on a fragment of Vogel’s skull, it crunched beneath her.

Who just leaves potato chips on the floor? Patrice thought.

She was thankful this was the boy’s cabin and that they would be the ones made to clean up.

“Tina?” She whispered and frisked her hand around in the darkness. “Tina, are you here?”

The cabin door squeaked open, and two more kids filed in. Bethany and Axel were brother and sister, and they seemed to be joined at the hip.

“Is she here?” Axel asked.

“I was thinking she’d be downstairs.” Patrice reached out and grabbed the basement door. The three teens descended the stairs quickly—
