âHowâs that for service?â Paul called as he killed the dinghyâs engine and let it drift toward the dock in front of Noraâs building after theyâd finished touring the parade route.
âNot bad at all.â Quinn turned to give him a fist bump. âThanks, man. Appreciate it.â
âThe pleasure was ours. And Iâm serious about that show. Get some pieces where you like them, and Iâll book out a week for you.â
Quinn nodded. âOkay.â
âExcellent.â Paul grinned and hiked his chin toward the dock. âQ, grab the bow line and tie us off to that cleat, and then we can see about getting this sleepy boy of yours home.â
Fort yawned loudly as if on cue, and Quinn smiled at Nora as she grabbed the line Paul had indicated and leapt out of the boat. Paul grabbed a cleat near the stern of the dinghy to pull the boat flush to the dock as she secured the bow.
Once everything was secure, Quinn dipped into a gallant bow and offered Nora her hand with a playful, âMilady.â
âSmooth, Q,â Paul teased.
Nora laughed when Quinn used her free hand to flip him off, and her eyes never left Quinnâs as she took her hand. She brushed a soft, âYouâre adorable,â against Quinnâs cheek as she allowed herself to be helped from the boat.
Quinn gave Noraâs lightbulb necklace a little tug. âSo are you.â
âStill canât believe you talked me into wearing this,â Nora muttered.
âI donât recall doing any talking. I just kissed you.â
âMm, wellâ¦â Nora caressed Quinnâs stomach. âIt was very persuasive.â
âCâmon, big guy,â Paul grunted.
Quinn winked at Nora and turned to help Paul get Fort out of the boat. She huffed a laugh when she saw that Fort had gone full exhausted-toddler-limp-noodle-mode, and held her arms out as she squatted at the edge of the dock. âHere. Iâll take him.â
âBetter you than me,â Paul said as he handed Fort over. âHeâs heavier than he looks.â
Quinn pulled Fort into her chest, and her heart melted a little when Fort snuggled right up to her and laid his chin on her shoulder. Guess weâre getting you upstairs this way, she thought, gritting her teeth as she pushed to stand. Once upright, she adjusted him in her arms to make the trek more comfortable. âEh, heâs not that bad. Iâll be in touch, okay?â
âYou better.â Paul waved. âHave a good night, guys!â
Since Quinnâs arms were full, Nora waved for the both of them as she said, âThank you for a wonderful boat ride, Paul.â She turned to Quinn, and rolled her eyes at Fort. âAre you really okay? Iâm sure we can make him walk upstairs.â
âHeâs fine,â Quinn insisted. âPoor guy deserves a break. He had a long night singing for his adoring audience.â
Nora laughed. âI canât believe he stood on top of the cabin and howled like that.â
Quinn bumped her lightly with her elbow as they started making their way toward the gate that led to the street. âIt wasnât howling. It was singing. And he apparently really loves Rudolph.
