Chapter 13

The sisters brought several bags of potions, and Zyr passed them out among the slaves. Jace ensured each got a ring that would allow them to fight underwater. The rescued slaves also received two healing elixirs and a mana rejuvenation potion each. Jace and his party accepted theirs, and each quietly took their potion of elemental protections as well. Jace had not forgotten Nia’s comment about the Gripa releasing acidic ink. Jace whispered the spell to activate his Shadow Armor while gripping the hilt of his enchanted sword in one hand. Kit, Selene, and Nicolette stood like dark angels at his side, each in their enhanced equipment. Zyr wore a suit of white plate mail and held a tall staff that looked carved from a huge pearl in one hand; her sister had dressed in blood-red leather and had a pair of crossed scimitars across her back. The pair radiated danger and Jace couldn’t help but wonder about their level, curious how powerful they truly were. He used the painful group message ability to pass a request to his team.

“Remember, Nia will kill us if she survives the fight. Don’t attack directly, but also don’t go out of your way to ensure she survives. Her fate will be her own. As for Zyr, if we can give her an edge, we’ll do it. My instincts say she’ll prove useful someday.”

The trio of adventurers nodded in agreement and then Jace’s attention turned to face the slaves they had with them. His voice rose as he looked them over and began speaking:

“You two, go and join the settlers. Your place is with the Black Boar tribe. From now on, her rule is law; you will be loyal to her for the rest of your days. Your life belongs to the Black Boar tribe and whatever fate makes of it.”

One of the Half-Orc males and a Svartalfar female broke from the group and left to join the growing Black Boars. Jace’s lips spread into a smile as he let out a chuckle and turned to the rest of the slaves.

“Fight smart. The creature has tentacles, a poisonous stinger and heavy armor. Focus on removing its limbs to start. You men, the tail is your responsibility. You go for the tail and break it if you can; that will protect us all from the poison.”

When everyone was ready, he gave a motion, and the group rushed forward to dive into the water. Traveling through the deep, azure pool was like descending through another world. He saw the huge Koi fish swimming, but they fled the group as they dropped. Thanks to the magic of the rings, none struggled to breathe and all could swim at full speed. They circled with Nicolette near the center. The rings would even allow them to drink their potions, if they were careful.
