âI have to say that Iâm quite surprised by what you managed to pull off so far using that weak body of yours,â Enma whispered in my right ear. I snapped my head around but she was nowhere to be seen.
âTrue,â Enmu added. âI donât know why I feltânever mind.â
âNever mind what, Goddess?â I asked curiously. She still didnât appear, and instead, the darkness somehow became even darker. How was that even possible?
âI said never mind, so donât ask, mortal. Instead, you should be worried about what weâll do to you!â
âWould it be alright if I rather not?â I asked. Just then I realized how sarcastic it sounded and slapped myself mentally.
âYouâve gathered fifty-one percent favor with me, Belial,â Enma said, interrupting us. âWith that, youâve barely managed to activate what I gave you last time.â
âActivated? Last time? Wait, did it have something to do with that drink?â
She finally appeared before me, nodding as she floated about ten feet from me. Enmu appeared beside her, holding a golding file in her hands, doing one nail at a time as if I wasnât even there. It both felt and looked so surreal, but luckily, I had always been one to believe in things rather quickly.
âOf course it did. Now, when you wake up, donât hold it against us. It was the only way to make you immortal, so to say.â
âImmortal? What are you on about? There are no ways for us mortals to attain immortality!â
âOh, there are. But it wonât be what youâre expecting, Belial,â Enma cackled. âOh no, youâll wish you never agreed to our deal. Now, how about you wake up and check your new body out, save your friends and run. Thereâs no way for you to fight the Legion in the state youâre in.â
I gritted my teeth and clenched my fists. The sisters made me furious for who knew which time, by the way they handled everything, which seemed to be malicious goodwill at its best.
âDo I stay an Awakened?â I asked, hopeful that I wouldnât have to start anew.
âYes, you do. However, youâll be slightly different when you wake up, maybe even a bit overpowered once you get a hang on your powers. Iâll give you a slight edge for passing the mark, but as to what it is that you got, well, youâll have to see for yourself.â
âEnma, I tire of this creature. Come, have him at it already so we can see who won our bet,â Enmu said with zero emotion. Bet, huh? And the fifty-percent threshold? This is the second time she mentioned it.
âAnd if I hadnât gathered as muchâfavor?â
âYou would have stayed dead, itâs as simple as that,â Enma replied, her pearl-white teeth showing.
âThank you for the confidence,â I murmured, annoyed by the way this turned out. Never in my wildest dreams had I thought of becoming an immortal, but then again, never had I thought Iâd die so young either.
âYouâre welcome,â she whispered, winked once, and then struck me with darkness so dense my consciousness faded.
