Chapter 14
Ireland
I couldnât move from my spot on the couch. I felt wrung out in the best of ways. My body still hummed with the aftereffects of that earth-shattering orgasm.
I wasnât proud that Iâd felt a little needy after he pulled out. Iâd wanted him to hold me, to tell me we hadnât screwed everything up. This could just be a fling for him, a way to pass the time while we were stuck together in this snowstorm.
When he returned, the light from the tree illuminated his tan skin. âIs there room for me on that couch, or should we move to the floor?â
âI canât move.â
With a chuckle, he leaned down and scooped me into his arms. I was a little surprised heâd done it so easily. When I was cocooned on the pillows, he grabbed blankets to throw over us. âAre you warm enough?â
âI donât want to get dressed yet.â
âMe either.â I rested my cheek against his chest, listening to his heart thud under my ear. âDo you regret it?â
He let out a breath, and I wished I could take back the question. âNo. Do you?â
âNo.â I traced a pattern on his chest, the hair tickling my finger.
He caught my wrist to stop the movement. âAre you sure?â
âFor once in my life, I didnât second-guess anything. I went with my feelings. Youâre nothing like any of the guys Iâve dated before. We acted on instinct and attraction, not a list of characteristics youâd have on some checklist.â
Emmett cocked his head. âYou have a checklist of things you want in a man?â
âMaybe.â
He adjusted himself so that he was looking down on me while propped on his elbow. âWill you tell me whatâs on the list?â
I ticked the list off on my fingers. âEducatedââ
âDoes it have to be college or post-grad?â
âHonestly? It doesnât matter. Itâs more that any man I like should be interested in improving himself and learning new things.â
âI went to college and I like learning new things.â
âCheck,â I said with a smile. âAnd he has to be nice to me.â
Emmett frowned. âHave you dated a lot of men that werenât nice to you?â
I rolled my eyes. âSome guys are too caught up in what they have going on to see you, if that makes sense.â
Emmett frowned. âI guess it does.â
I wondered if he thought my list was shallow. âIt would be great if he had a sense of humor. But Iâm not funny, so I canât hold that against anyone.â
âI fail on that count.â
I laughed. âSo true.â
He tickled my sides.
âNo. Please donât. Iâm so ticklish.â
His fingers stilled, but he kept his hand on my rib cage. âWhat else?â
âHe has to be a family man, whether that be one he made or his biological family. I guess Iâd want him to be willing to spend his time with me and be interested in creating a family down the road.â
Emmett tipped his head to the side. âMen arenât willing to spend time with you?â
I rolled my eyes. âAre you listening to me?â
He kissed my brow.
