Chapter Eight
Megan had always admired the luxury beds at the Hotel Fortune, but sheâd never actually tried one out before. Well, nothing more than sitting on the edge and bouncing a few times, anyway. This crazy, distracting thought broke into her mind as she and Mark walked down the hallway toward his room Now would be her chance to discover how comfortable those beds really were. Her heart pounded when she doubted, under the full attention of Mark Mendoza, sheâd notice anything that had to do with the mattress. Only who was on it with her.
Was this really happening?
Their mutual attraction had been playing hide-and-seek from the beginning, especially growing over the last couple days, since they had run Brianna out of town. Megan had imagined, in the secrecy of her room at the ranch, being with him like this. Many times. It had become her favorite fantasy. Sheâd never admitted it to anyone, especially her sisters. There was no way she could have predicted how hard her heart would beat in this moment, or how tricky it would be to breathe. How was she going to hold it together to be with Mark?
She hadnât been with many men, and Mark, being a lot older than her, was obviously an experienced lover. He had the moves, the charm, the natural sex appeal. He had it all. So, what would she bring to the table, er, bed? Now her pulse pushed into erratic bursts as adrenaline was added to the mix.
How about enthusiasm? Where Mark was concerned, there was certainly that. She hoped with everything she had she wouldnât disappoint him as he carded his room and pushed the door open.
The hospitality evening turndown service had already occurred, and the shiny silk and cool-looking sheets were ready and waiting for them. The vision sent a shiver through her and she was certain her skin would soon be all lit up with the huge full-bodied blush she sensed coming on.
âAre you sure about this?â Mark asked with a husky voice, seeming hesitant to step inside until she assured him.
More than a fair share of employees had noticed them walking holding hands from the pool, through the lobby and down the first-floor hall to his room. Talk about her personal life being an open book! Tongues would be wagging all over again. Was she sure about this?
Well, so be it. Right now, she didnât care about anything but him.
Megan disguised her quivery inhale as a clearing of her throat. Where was she now? Oh, right. Was she ready for this as he had just asked? Her mind sped on with a thousand thoughts. Sheâd known the man less than two weeks, yet to be honest, sheâd felt ready, in her fantasies at least, for the next step with him since day one. And now was the time if there ever was one, to be honest. Because theyâd dropped the âfakeâ back at the pool with those full disclosures, and it didnât get more ârealâ than making love for the first time.
