Arinna shut the cabinet harder than she’d intended and caused the dishes inside to rattle. She’d been doing stupid things like that since she’d woken up and found herself alone in her bed at five in the morning. Which meant he’d left shortly after she’d fallen asleep, exhausted. Their love making…no. She stopped that thought in its tracks. Their fucking had started out desperate and had progressed in its intensity throughout the night.

They dozed between to recover, but once they caught their breath, one of them would reach for the other like they couldn’t bear to be separated for any amount of time. Each time proved to be better than the last and that was something Arinna had thought couldn’t happen.

She wasn’t going to delude herself into making their time together into anything that it wasn’t. They may have made peace during the night, they may even have started liking each other, but she would be setting herself up for a mountain of hurt if she thought a relationship between them was possible. Certainly not one built on the most incredible sex of her life.

Kaden leaving like he did proved it. He came. He fucked her. He left. Without even saying goodbye or leaving a note. That screamed booty call to her.

Arinna glared at the coffee maker, having no idea where the coffee went. The model in the penthouse was much more sophisticated than the Mr. Coffee machine she was used to. She tossed the coffee back in the cabinet and decided juice would have to do. With a wince from certain previously unused muscled being overworked last night, she headed toward the refrigerator when she heard the front door open and close.

Kaden walked into the kitchen with his hands full—two coffees in a tray in one hand and a white bakery box of something delicious smelling in the other.

Surprise must have shown on her face because he said, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you, I used your key and went to get us breakfast.”

She looked at the bakery box and then up into his eyes and something in the vicinity of her heart warmed. “You went to get breakfast?”

“Yes, I did.” His tone was cautious, but his gaze ran over her body and his eyes flared.

She’d pulled on a tank top and a pair of sleep shorts that had seen their better days years ago. She shouldn’t have brought them with her, but they were so comfortable, they were like a hug from home. But they also left very little to the imagination, which Kaden was appreciating at the moment. She couldn’t believe the people that Kaden had hired to rescue what could be rescued from her apartment hadn’t thrown them away.

Anxiously she twisted the hem of her shirt with her fingers. “I woke up and you weren’t here.”

He held up the offerings in his hands. His gaze searched hers. Kaden sat the coffee and pastries on the counter. “You thought I left?” he asked as he wrapped his arms around her.
