An hour later, I was ready. I sat at the kitchen counter, nails tapping against the granite as I waited.

My mother was back on the couch, television blaring, though it seemed obvious she was waiting just as much as I was. She’d practically begged me to be able to meet Ryan.

I’d given in, thinking it would make her feel better.

Aida came down two minutes later, trying to look as nonchalant as possible.

I knew she was just as curious too. I shot her a warning glare, daring her to try and embarrass me.

Aida grinned, shrugging as she joined mom on the couch.

Over the TV, I barely heard the soft roar of a motorcycle coming down the street. Abruptly, I felt nervous. I hopped off the stool, heading to the front door.

My mom muted the television, half-rising from the couch.

Moving the curtain, I saw Ryan pulling up to my house. Right on time.

“He’s here?” my mom whispered.

“Yeah,” I said, letting the curtains drop. “And you don’t have to whisper. He can’t hear you, you know.” I shook my head as I smiled.

“Was that a motorcycle?” She frowned, moving to stand beside me. Slipping the curtains to the side, she looked out. “June. That’s a motorcycle.”

“Yeah?”

“You didn’t tell me he had a motorcycle.”

Aida made a ‘you’re in trouble face’ over mom’s shoulder.

I groaned, grabbing my house keys from the kitchen counter. “Does it matter?”

“I don’t want you getting on that thing.” She blocked my way to the door, crossing her arms over her chest. She actually looked pretty serious.

“What happened to trusting me?” I asked, frustration rising.

“I—”

I kissed her on the cheek, brushing past her and out the door.

“June!”

Ignoring her, I shut the door behind me, racing down the steps and onto the driveway. She’d be super annoyed later, but I couldn’t wait any longer. Just the sight of Ryan sent shivers down my spine. Heat flared low in my belly as I drank him in.

He wore dark wash jeans that clung to his thighs and a black shirt that stretched across his chest. His biceps flexed as he handed me a helmet. “I was about to come to the door,” he said, his words muffled by his own helmet.

“No need,” I told him quickly. “Let’s go.”

“What about—”

I swung up onto the bike behind him, jamming my head into the helmet. “Go, Ryan. Before my mother traps us both here with a ton of questions you don’t wanna answer.”

Ryan backed the bike out of the drive, making sure we stayed balanced then gunned the throttle.

I wrapped my arms around his waist, clinging to him. His body felt hard against mine and I pressed closer, needing to feel more of him.

He took the ramp onto the highway, speeding back to Holbeck.

Closing my eyes, I enjoyed the feeling of the wind pulling at my clothes, the power of the bike between my legs. I curled my fingers against his stomach, feeling the hard edges hiding just beneath his shirt.

I’d been so focused on his body that I hadn’t really been paying attention to where we were going.
