Chapter Fourteen

Behir Village

The soft light of the waxing gibbous moon revealed puffs of smoke rising into the air above the rolling hills. One cloud of black, then a long space before two in quick succession. Welcome, it said. Ayla nodded to Deetra on her right, and she called for the drums.

Another mile would bring them to the main village of last of the five orc clans, the Behir. The Behir lived on the edge of the Sandsea, and their elders served as the mystics and shaman of the Orc Hills. Each of the others; Boa, Naga, Viper, and Basilisk had contributed nearly every camel and able-bodied adult to the Empire’s army.

They all cheered at the army’s approach, chanting the King-Chief’s name and lifting spears, swords, and shields to the sky. All of them believed that after hundreds of generations, Ayla had come to help them take back their ancestral jungles in the Beanntann Mountains, the Dwarven lands.
