Chapter Sixteen

Sam

THE SUN WAS OUT, BAKING my skin as I lay in the sand. I didn’t care about sunburn, only the feeling of the warmth of the sun on my body. It was purifying.

Waves crashed into the shore near my feet and ran up the beach, covering my bottom half in foam before the tide pulled it back down into the crystal-blue ocean. It was paradise, but not just because of the beach or the water or the sun. It was because of Rae.

She glowed in the sunlight, standing beside me, her shadow casting behind her. She was wearing a sheer white dress, so thin her taut, pink nipples could be seen easily from where I lay looking up at her through the fabric. The deep V-shape of her core was outlined as the dress was pushed through her legs by the wind, almost as if the earth itself wanted to remove her clothes from her and let her return to the water as naked as man when he took his first steps out of it millennia ago.

Rae was a goddess. I knew it instinctively. Standing with one hand holding her hat in place through the gusts, she stared out over the water as if in dominion. She could control the waves, I thought, with the power of her mind alone. She controlled everything. All that I could see, all I could touch, it was because of her.

I felt a sudden gutting sensation at the idea of her absence. Without her, I was lost in a void, untethered to reality and life itself. I would be nothing. Just skin, baking in the sand.

Rae turned her gaze to me, and my heart thudded in my chest. She smiled, and the sky grew brighter, the air cleaner. A hint of lilac and jasmine drifted on the breeze along with the sea salt. I was hungry. But not for food. For sustenance. The sustenance of her touch.

She lowered herself to her knees and touched my face with one palm. I turned my head to it and pressed a kiss into the center. She laughed softly and leaned forward, puckering her lips. They met mine, and the smack of her kiss was the only sound worth hearing.

“Sleep,” she said, her voice soothing and warm like the sun above. “You need your sleep.”

Her head dipped down, and she pressed a kiss to my chest and then settled there, her hair strewn across my shoulder and down my arm as she curled into me. I took in the smell of her, relishing in the overwhelming sensation of her body touching mine. One of her arms draped over my stomach, and I felt my cock twitch.

But now was not the time. There would be time, just not now. Now was the time for rest.

Kissing the top of her head, I lay back in the sand and felt the sun burning down on one side of my face, so much it almost hurt. But I didn’t care. Not as long as she was in my arms.
