My God, what just happened? That did not go how I saw it going.
As I stare at the door, my attention gets broken by Ashlynâs frantic voice. Sheâs kneeling beside Teddy, trying to wake him,
âTeddy, baby. Please, open your eyes.â
Shit! âIs he alright?â I rush over asking.
âWhat do you care?!â she snaps back at me.
âHey, I donât know what Teddy told you either, but this is definitely not all my fault.â
Ashlynâs glare is murderous, as she screams, âShut up! Just shut your mouth. I donât want to hear it now. Just get down here and help me.â
âWhat do you want me to do?â
She looks around the bakery then tells me, âGet me some wet towels so I can clean him up. I need to see how bad his injuries are.â
I take off to the back and get as many towels I can and wet them like she said. When I get back, sheâs on the phone with someone. Kneeling beside her, I hand her the towels. When she hangs up, I ask,
âWere you calling an ambulance?â
Ashlyn glances at me pissed. âNo and you know why. I was calling my brother-in-law. Heâs coming to help.â
âBrother-in-law?â
âZander Stern.â
âOh yeah, thatâs right, Theo married Catherine. I guess that does make him family now.â
âNo, Theo being Zanderâs real father makes them brothers.â
âOh shit! When did that happen?â
âDidnât I tell you to shut up?â
âFine but I imagine weâre going to have to talk eventually.â
She glances my way again but just for a second then goes back to cleaning Teddyâs wounds. Although sheâs not quiet for long.
âYou told me your name was Tiffany. Was it to get close to me and find out more about Teddy and Shane?â
âI never set out to find youâ¦you talkedâ¦â
âYes, I talked to you, because I liked you. But you knew who I was. You knew I was with Teddy the whole time.â
âI did. But You have to knowâ¦â
She interrupts me again and her voice gets louder, âAll I know is youâre a liar. What I donât know is, what else youâre lying about.â
âNot a damn thing.â Pissed, I stand up. âAnd before you accuse me of anything else, you should ask your boyfriend or fiancé or whatever the hell he is to you, what heâs been lying about for years. Because, yes I left but the way Shane just kicked his ass and accused us of being lovers is way further than any simple lie I ever told.â
She drops the towel and stands. âSimple. You call your lies simple?â
âLetâs get this straight, Ashlyn. I lied to you but only about who I was. There were never any other lies.â
She opens then closes her mouth, debating what to say next. When she finally speaks, she asks, âSo then why does Shane think your son is Teddyâs?â
âI have no idea, but I imagine the piece of shit at your feet can tell us when he wakes up.â
âHey, donât you call him that! Heâs mine and the father of my children.â
âI know and I have so badly been wanting to tell you not to marry him.
