The dog snapped its teeth together at the fence and bits of flesh and thick blood dripped and flew from its snout as it did. Kia honestly thought this must be the most terrifying thing she’d experienced in life thus far and pitied the children that they had been through it.

Timmy’s arm was badly mangled and blood was oozing out of it at an alarming rate. The bones at his shoulder and midway down his arm looked to be pulled out of socket.

He was still screaming a few seconds later, lying on the ground and the other kids were standing around in shock. Twelve year old Karen had wet herself.

Kia lifted him up and screamed for everyone to get into the house. The dog was still clawing and biting at the fence, splattering blood all over, some its own as it was injuring itself trying to get through. The thing was crazed, possibly rabid. She’d never seen a dog act that way.

Some of the kids fell in behind her and one even opened the door for her as she brought Timmy into the house. There was no time to make sure they all listened, however. She didn’t even really think about it, but considering the situation, with the dog and the bleeding kid needing immediate medical attention, she couldn’t be blamed much really. She got him into the kitchen and laid him on the floor. She had a towel out of a drawer in seconds and was trying to make a tourniquet out of it. She managed to slow the bleeding, but the boy was in shock.

Outside she could still hear the dog barking viciously.

Before she even had time to think, something big slammed into the front door.

Halfway to the living room the front door crashed inward with a thunderous bang and the sound of splintering wood and she heard multiple people rushing in. The two kids in the living room screamed, and she started to run out there.

Kia made it to the edge of the living room just in time to see one of seven or eight men jump the couch and grab one of the kids. He lifted poor Latisha right in the air and bit her face. That was almost too much for Kia and she froze for an instant in terror. In the next millisecond four more men - bloody and looking to be severely wounded in various ways - barreled through the door and she knew there wasn’t enough room or time to do anything about it. There were kids in the kitchen that she could save.

Turning her back was horrible, and it made her feel instantly hollow inside, tears pouring from her eyes, but she ran as fast as she could, trying to tell herself the whole way that it was not just to save herself.

Karen screamed, having come out of the kitchen and a couple of the men saw her and came at them. These were not normal men. They seemed like monsters.
