Chapter 11

OLD ACQUAINTANCES

I was back in the Lab.

My greenish cell was surrounded with various windows displaying a plethora of mods. Instead of vacuoles, tentacles, spikes, and pseudopods, there were now paws, tails, and even entire organs. I was also happy to see that I had a ton of Evolution Points to spare.

For starters, I removed everything I wouldn’t need on land. The fins, the vacuole, and the core improvements were of no use to me anymore. After a little thought, I removed everything. I’d become a multicellular organism anyway. I wondered what would happen if I left them. Would I die? Continue developing like a unicellular organism? Would I remain a microscopic cell or turn into a giant one?

In the end, I decided not to risk it.

One of the more important changes was the fact that mods were now divided into three different tiers. The first, the cheapest one, occupied the least space. But before I delved into any of that, I needed to get myself a brain, as I no longer needed a core.

Several options were presented to me, coupled with the nervous system. I wondered how having two brains would affect me... I mean, I technically still had the brain that I had before the cataclysm. How the hell would’ve I been able to think otherwise? Cells didn’t have a brain, they had no consciousness or thought... Perhaps it’d make me smarter?

Perception influences the speed with which information is processed.

Exactly what I need.

Though, if one thought about it, this directly affected the increase in reaction, and the effectiveness of all skills used along with it. So, since mental strength depended on the brain and the nervous system, it was of vital importance to choose the best ones.

So I did.

The nervous system, a network of translucent threads, immediately stretched itself throughout my body, but I was puzzled as to where the brain had gone. My body was currently an elongated blob devoid of organs. Did I need to make a head for it? Or should I put it in the center of my body? But where would the heart go then?

Okay, center for now...

I stretched the organ a little so that there’d be enough space for everything. However, after I purchased the brain, the option icon remained hovering above me.

Um... System?

The ESP path allows you to have two brains.

Weird, but you won’t hear me complaining... This’ll allow me to level the characteristics I need...

The second brain was smaller than the first. I put it in a specially created “head.” I made it so that everything connected with my ESP skills connected to the first brain and everything else with the second.

My lightning mod, connected to the first brain, had no problems adapting. Third Eye, also connected to it, successfully migrated to the neck of my new body. After a moment of thought, I invested all Evolution Points I could into it. Having reached the current level cap, it now looked like a small cat eye with a white pupil.

I also needed to get a spine lest I wanted to look and move like a slug.
