Chapter 15

Kissing Vampires

“CALL HIM BACK!” MY SHRILL voice cuts through the air, making Jameson and Mikkalo wince.

The two of them look at each other, and I take their moment of distraction to snatch the com device from Jameson’s fingers. I throw myself away from him, tumbling off the bed, only to have Mikkalo catch me. Swinging my arm out, I smack Mikkalo upside the head. He freezes in surprise before setting me on my feet.

Jameson comes up behind me, stopping me from spinning away. I find myself caged in between their muscular, way too sexy bodies, which just makes me gasp harder.

“Give me my com device, Gwen,” Jameson says. He could easily overpower me and steal it back but he doesn’t.

I shake my head. “Nu-uh. I want you to call Bronx back. I want—”

The com device beeps in my hand, and I nearly drop the thing. Jameson takes advantage of my shot nerves and swipes it away, abandoning me to jet across the room at a vampire’s speed. Mikkalo steps between us, blocking my way, and I press my hands into his solid chest.

I stop myself from screaming at him and instead sigh and say, “Mikkalo, please. Let me go to him.”

“It’s not a good idea,” Mikkalo murmurs, keeping his voice soft. “Bronx is probably mad as hell that I didn’t tell Jameson about him being with your brothers so that he could prepare.”

“He’s going to be mad? You should’ve told me he was with Grayson,” I snap, glowering at him even though I’m pissed off at Bronx. He should’ve told me the reason he was going to Crimson Vista in the first place. He could’ve taken me with him.

“Hey, Gwen.” Everett’s voice draws my attention away from Mikkalo. “I’ll let you yell at Bronx all you want in a minute, but can I talk to you first?”

Mikkalo shifts out of my way, and Jameson meets me halfway across the room. We share a look, and Jameson looks like he’s just as pissed at his brothers. I bet if he knew, he’d have offered to take me himself. He knows how freaked out I am about them. Jameson possesses something I didn’t know vampires could—empathy.

Jameson hugs me and brushes his lips to my ear. “I’m sorry, Gwen. I hope you know I had no idea.”

I bob my head and kiss him. “I know.”

Easing away, he hands me his com device and hugs me from behind to peer at the screen with me over my shoulder. Everett’s face takes up the whole screen, his stubble more noticeable since the last time I saw him. His eyes shift back and forth as he searches my face like he can somehow assess me through the video.

“Where’s Grayson?” I ask, wishing I could see past his blue eyes, still managing to capture mine even if he’s not in front of me.

“He’s in his cell. I’m going to let you talk to him and the rest of your brothers, but Bronx needs a couple minutes,” he says, remaining expressionless toward my oncoming annoyance.
