Basically, she was pulling numbers a little worse than your grandma’s Facebook account. But by primary day, AOC had a five-figure following of sixty thousand. By January 4, she had 20.7 million views and more than 160,000 retweets of that video, and had surpassed most House members in social-media followings, including Speaker Pelosi, who had one of the highest follower counts on the Hill. Not only had Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez become a politician, she was a proven influencer. It was her supporters on social media who helped her gain confidence as a young Latina woman in Congress and assured her that she deserved a seat.
