With his plan spoken aloud, Tommy drove them home. Since he practically lived with Gustav already, it had been the logical choice to hire movers and have the rest of Tommyâs things moved to Gustavâs place. They had taken such a clinical approach to this marriage. It honestly felt steadier to Tommy because they went about things seriously. Their marriage hadnât been about planning a party and picking colors. This was about actually being married like real adults. Tommy took a lot of comfort in that.
They held hands. Gustav was dead silent, but his thumb kept stroking Tommyâs hand. It was like he was lost inside his head. Tommy kept sneaking glances Gustavâs way. Since the accident, he had turned into someone else. He was too serious now. It scared Tommy a little. He feared what Gustav might see inside his head, where Tommy couldnât reach him.
âWhat dumb thing are you thinking thatâll piss me off?â
Gustav didnât laugh like Tommy hoped. He squeezed Tommyâs hand.
A bit of panic hit Tommy. His worst fears had already begun. Gustav didnât really want this. Tommy had been right. This had been something to keep Gustav going, and now he realized it. Tommy pulled into their garage, but didnât move from the car. He thought he might be the one who hyperventilated.
âIf you didnât really want this, you can say it. We can get this annulled. You donât have to be married to me.â
Gustav got out of the car. He leaned heavily on his cane to help him maneuver the new leg as he hobbled to Tommyâs side of the car. Tommy watched it all with a sense of unreality while panic tried seizing his heart.
Gustav opened Tommyâs door. âLetâs go, beautiful. I want to make love to my husband.â
The dark clouds parted. Tommy stepped from the car. Together, they headed inside. They hadnât engaged in anything sexual since a while before the accident. Tommy hadnât wanted to push. He knew Gustav didnât feel like himself anymore. It seemed Gustav had his mind set now. Still, Tommy didnât intend to go anywhere Gustav wasnât ready to travel.
Gustav headed straight for their bedroom. He sat on the edge of the bed and started removing clothing. After a moment, he froze. Tommyâs heart fell. He hadnât removed any clothes for just this reason.
Gustavâs gaze met his. He looked sad. âEverything about this day has been so clinical. So wooden. Even this. I donât know how to fix it.â
Love poured through Tommy. Gustavâs mood hadnât been about anything other than wanting more from the day. Tommy could fix that. âI do.â He straddled Gustavâs lap and tumbled him backward until he covered Gustavâs body. He claimed Gustavâs mouth, giving him everything. Tommy sucked and licked, teasing until Gustav turned desperate. He felt the shift in the air. Gustavâs hands were everywhere. He tore at Tommyâs clothes.
âFuck. I need you inside me. Youâre the only good thing I have left. Iâm drowning.â
Tommy didnât know if Gustav even realized what he said, but Tommy did.
