FOURTEEN

“What the hell are you doing here?” Malcolm asked in fiery and low tone. He’d finally found an opportunity to talk to Nikki while Alex occupied herself with her many guests.

“Apparently I am wishing your wife a happy 40th,” Nikki grinned as she delicately bit into a small egg roll, then placed the rest back down on her small white plate with gold trim. “Mmmm, these are delicious, you wanna bite?”

“This is not a joke, Nikki,” Malcolm said, his voice tight with emphasis. As Malcolm continued to talk, he deliberately looked straight ahead so as not to draw too much attention to them, pausing to keep an eye out for Alex as well as any other suspecting eyes.

“Who said it was?” Nikki threw back at Malcolm.

“Then why are you here? Why are you coming in my house, blowing up my spot?” Malcolm added to his flurry of inquiries.

“Really? Is that what you think I am doing? Is that who you think I am?” Nikki scoffed, rolling her eyes and shaking her head.

“The proof is in the motherfucking pudding.”

“Seriously Malcolm. If I wanted to blow up your spot I could have done it a long time ago. I don’t deserve this from you, I put up with your shit and this is how you treat me?”

“Like my side piece, yes.”

Malcolm heard a deliberate hiss escape from Nikki’s lips, “Wow, so all that talk was just hot air.”

“You knew I was married, so how could that be?” Malcolm uttered.

“I don’t know, maybe the dozen times you told me how unhappy you were, how I made you feel like a man when your wife didn’t, I guess that was all orgasm talk, huh? God, you are such an asshole, I question, why do I even stay with you?”

Malcolm turned slightly to see Nikki’s eyes filling with tears, “Listen, this isn’t the place to talk about this. We can talk later,” Malcolm said, resuming his forward stance position.

Nikki wiped the tears before they had a chance to run down her cheek, “I’ll be busy later,” Nikki threw out in a firm tone.

Malcolm felt his jaw tightening hearing her last sentence. Unfortunately, it was also accompanied with a gnawing in his stomach, “Busy…now that is funny.” He chuckled then glanced over towards Davis in a casual conversation of his own, focusing everything he had on him.

“I don’t know what you see in that cornball.”

Nikki laughed, gathered her composure looking down at her black strappy sandals then up into the air before turning her head in Malcolm’s direction, “You have no right to be jealous. You’re the one that’s married, not me.”

Malcolm shifted his body from right to left, tucked his hands in the pockets of his black jeans as he threw a full smile on his face, “I think you need to leave.”

Nikki turned to look at Malcolm, “And miss all the excitement?” She tilted her head as a dubious smile tap-danced across her face, “Not in a million years.”

Malcolm watched as Nikki gave him
