Graphic analysis

In this chapter, preposition groups are enclosed by parenthesis. Group structure is analysed under the particular clause structural element where appropriate.

Notes:

• Monotransitive verbs in the passive voice do not include Complements (the active Complement has become the Subject of the passive); however, bitransitive verbs in the passive, still have a single Complement, e.g. She was found very tiresome.

• To determine whether tired is a H/v in a vg or Cs/aj (participle) in She is tired, place an intensifying adverb like very between the is and tired to see whether the very Modifies the H/aj, e.g. He is very tired, in which case describe tired as a Cs/ aj. If it does not make sense, e.g. She has very finished, leave finished as H/v in the vg.

Example

1) He has gone (to Toronto).
