Now each of the cradles can be threaded on its rod and offered up to the hull. The first job is the opening up of the slot for the keel; when this fits mark as shown on all sides of the cradle and then remove and trim or sand down to the lines.

When satisfied with the fit to the hull, check that they both sit flush and level on the plinth.

Now check that the little ship is sitting upright. The dark rectangle to the right is actually the back of the handle of a little engineer’s square. It is fixed, with double-sided tape, to the back of the large set square on which is marked a green grid, supporting it, and ensuring that it is upright. In the foreground is another set square lined up with the side of the plinth. Now it is possible to stand back from the model and see if any more adjustments are required.
