Rose: I miss you, baby. I love you.

Rose: If you’re not here by noon I will hurt myself. Life isn’t worth living if you’re not with me.

Melinda looked at the time. It was 11:00 A.M. She sprang out of bed and began getting dressed.

Chapter Fourteen

Jordan picked up Melinda’s phone and read the messages. When she reached the end, she scoffed.

“Melinda, you can’t be serious. ” Jordan said, sounding annoyed yet again.

“I can’t let her die, Jordan. ” Melinda told her firmly. Her heart raced and there was an unfamiliar ache in her chest.

“Open your eyes! She is guilting and manipulating you. She is crazy!” Jordan Shouted.

“You don’t understand! I need her!” Melinda shouted without thinking.

“Oh. You need her. So, then she wasn’t lying.” Jordan said numbly.

“Jordan, that’s not what I meant. ” Melinda said a little more calmly. Melinda was finished dressing, and she tried getting closer to Jordan, but Jordan backed away.

“If she’s so important, then go!” Jordan shouted at her with tears in her eyes. Melinda felt her heart aching worse than before. She couldn’t tell Jordan what she felt towards Rose because that would likely make the situation worse.

“Okay, you’re telling me to go, I will go, but you should know there’s only one thing I don’t doubt about my past. And that’s my love for you. I know that was real.” Melinda said with tears in her eyes. With much hesitation, she walked out of Jordan’s room, and as much as it broke her heart, Jordan didn’t stop her. Instead, Jordan picked up her phone and called Danny. She explained what had happened, and since he was nearby he said he would pick her up. Jordan waited for him outside and when he arrived she went to his car.

“How are you feeling?” Danny asked as she got in.

“I don’t know what to think. Rose claims Melinda was in love with her, and that’s the real reason she left me. Melinda said she needs her. I just don’t know.” Jordan said tearfully. “I’ve felt her holding back the last few days.” She added.

“Oh, Jordan. I can’t believe you’d believe anything that girl says.” Danny said as he drove off.

“Where are we going?” Jordan asked him sadly.

“Well, we are going to get you some real proof. ” Danny answered. Danny took Jordan to Melinda’s parent’s house.

“Why are we here?” She asked him.

“Go into her closet. Look in the safe.” Danny said firmly.

“Why?” She asked again. Danny looked at her intensely.

“For once, do what I’m telling you.” He said even more firmly.

“Okay, fine. ” Jordan said weakly. She got out of the car and knocked on the door. Mr. Addario answered and let her in. She told him she had to pick something up for Melinda, and she went up the stairs and into Melinda’s room. Jordan carefully pulled the closet door open, and she put the combination into the safe with shaking hands.
