Part Two

Balcones Del Mar

The house was high on a soft hill, overlooking the ocean. The ocean was able to come as far as the edge of the foundation of the house. The foundation was built as steps leading to the house, and when the tide came in, the ocean would come as far as the third step; never higher, unless there would be a storm, and then the ocean would come as high as five to six feet of water—but the normal height of water was always two to three feet low when the tide came in.

On a daily time there would be a sandy fine sand to climb down to. There was a distance to all places, as the house was far and secluded in a tree-like garden with hanging gardens of beautiful ferns, and flowers exotic and beautiful, in statues of tall full winged angels and beautiful women, naked, holding flowers. The angels were as human looking as the women. Sometimes you could almost swear they would smile at them or even you; when I saw them, I almost fell over their graceful and noble look, as if they were about to ask me, “Where are you from and what do you want here in our world?”

As he spoke, some of the other angels would look as disturbed as the one that was speaking. So I told him, “Please excuse me for asking you these questions, but I myself am not from here and I am just curious about my new surroundings, you see I am the new owner of this estate and I am just for the first time looking at the property, so if you will excuse me I did not mean to be rude to you, no. I, on the other hand, am sorry if I offended you all, I just did not realize who I was speaking to, and to the ladies, please forgive me I offended you.”

I could not believe what I had just gone through. As I walked away I felt as if I was going crazy and I had imagined the whole thing, but then my whole world was in a wild state of affairs; nothing was normal to me anymore, for I myself had left that normal world a long time ago. Yes, I, Pedro, had ceased to exist in a normal body and the normal world as men see it. I had become someone else, and there would be nothing to change that, forever and ever again. And I really didn’t
