Chapter 20

Walking back to the neighborhood of Haight-Ashbury the four men veered off from going to the park, moving up at Ashbury Street just a few blocks away. Leading the way, Mitch climbed the steps to a thin three-story house and unlocked the front door, ushering the men in. Entering the hallway of the home a set of stairs led immediately up to the next floor while to the left side of the room held a dining room table and a kitchen that was behind the steps in the dining room. The walls were painted a simple white and generic pictures hung on the wall. It was a rental property and showed nothing personal about Mitch or his life or the people that he loved.

“Mi casa es to casa,” said Mitch to the other men. “You guys feel free to use the kitchen, eat any of the food, take a nap, do whatever you like is fine by me. What's mine is yours.”

“That's mighty hospitable of you partner,” said Reggie.

“No problem friend. If we're going to be working together I want you guys to be comfortable and happy,” said Mitch. “I got three more bedrooms upstairs. You'll be able to tell that one of them is mine because it's got all my crap in it. The other ones are just guest bedrooms. Hardly anybody ever sleeps in them. You're all welcome to grab one, station your stuff inside and make it your own.”

Rizzo nodded his head in agreement, still scanning for anything unusual but coming up with nothing.

“So, this friend of yours that you want us to meet... When can we expect to see him?” said Rizzo.

“Not really sure,” said Mitch, turning and starting to walk up the steps. “He's the kind of guy that comes and goes as he wants to but he's an important guy. Kind of makes the whole operation work. If I had to say that I had a boss it would be this guy.”

“Powerful man,” said Rizzo. “I see he is involved with the dealing.”

“Yes, but at a much higher level than I am,” said Mitch. “This is the kind of guy that can get things done.”

“You guys want to watch some TV before bed?” said Mitch, pushing the door to the living room open on the second floor.

Moving into the room a smile spread across Mitch’s face at the man standing up from a high backed chair.

"Thanks man. Who knows how long they would have held my ass if it wasn't for you,” said Mitch, shaking the hand of the man fast and furiously. “They got a hard-on to get me, I'll tell you that.”

Turning at the waist Mitch pointed to the three men that entered the room and placed his arm around the shoulders of J-Bone.

“These boys are Rizzo, Reggie and Monte,” said Mitch with a smile. “These are the guys that are going to help me out a little bit with that problem I have with security. I will talk to the top four groups and try to make a deal.
