Afternoon

Lennox

The next two weeks had been a blur of training with Dawes and his assistants or hanging out with the guys. It was funny how easily we'd made a routine here. Today Dawes surprised me yet again by forcing me to add his cell number into my phone and texting me so he had mine. After everything Calev told him, it seemed he had pulled me under his wing. It was actually nice to have a dad figure even if said “Dad” was a demon who could kill me and everyone I knew without breaking a sweat. Now it was finally break time, so I was supposed to be packing.

"You ready, Bean?" Lachlan asked, cracking my door open and peeking in. I gave him a blank look, and he chuckled.

"Am I ready to not only see your parents, but your entire pack? Sure," I deadpanned, my voice hitting a weird octave on the last word.

He chuckled and walked over, curling his arms around me and hugging me to his chest. "It's okay. They're going to love you, Lennie." His biceps flexed around me as he squeezed, warmth and his woodsy scent surrounding and calming me.

"The first person who says you shouldn't be with me is getting throat punched," I muttered, shoving the last of my clothes into the duffle Tristan had bought me.

"I'll just sic my momma on them," Lachlan said, and something in the way he said momma made me melt a bit.

"Why are you so cute?" I asked, turning in his arms and kissing him on the nose. His boyish grin had the corners of his eyes crinkling, the pretty green depths sparkling happily. There was a change in him today. Nothing big, but I knew him well enough to see how relaxed and happy he was. "I'm hurrying," I promised, shoving the last few items in my bag.

“Hey, I wanted to talk to you a bit, the guys can wait,” he said, the serious tone in his voice making me freeze.

“Sure, what’s wrong?” I said, studying him and waiting for him to explain.

“Listen. My pack really relies on tradition. Tradition is all about hierarchy and respect. They will challenge you because you aren’t a bear. The Alpha holds the most power of anyone in the pack, his power will literally make you bow to him. Looking him in the eyes for prolonged periods is a direct challenge to his power. They thrive on strength and they will push your buttons,” he warned with a sigh.

“I’ve tried to do some research. I expected all that,” I said softly, sitting down next to him. “I’m powerful and strong, too. I’m not too worried,” I lied, trying to hide it with a joking tone. He snorted and rolled his eyes.

“The Alpha… is my dad,” he revealed, something he had mentioned in passing, but this was the first time I’d really processed it. “Sometimes I have a hard time differentiating between the two. My dad loves me, but he is kind of intense.
