Izzie

Izzie sat back in her chair and tilted her head. “So? What do you think?”

“You’re showing all sorts of new things, aren’t you?” Allie laughed, and Izzie watched as she licked her lips and nodded approvingly. “You are right, though. The Dreamsicle is among my top three favorite ice cream flavors.”

Izzie clapped with glee. “I didn’t think you would be disappointed. I can’t believe you’ve never tried it before.” Izzie dug into her cup of ice cream. She pointed to the cup that sat in front of Allie. Vanilla and chocolate are so plain for someone like you.”

Allie laughed and shrugged. “I know what I like! What can I say?”

Izzie took a bite of her ice cream and swirled her spoon into the cup. “You surprise me every day.” Allie’s cheeks turned a deep red.

“Tonight was nice,” Allie began. “I’m glad you’re back here, even if you might lose your job. I hope your boss realizes it would be a terrible decision to fire you.”

Izzie quirked her lips into a smile. “Well, like I said, whatever happens, happens. Tonight made my week.” Izzie finished her cup of ice cream and looked at Allie’s. “But, I hope that it’s not over.”

“What’d you have in mind?” Allie asked, a teasing grin gracing those beautiful lips of hers.

“Well, why don’t we get out of here, and you can find out.”

Izzie reached out and grabbed Allie’s empty cup, then grabbed her hand. They got up from the table and walked hand-in-hand past the trash can. Izzie tossed their empty cups into the trash. Allie’s grasp felt so small in her hand but warm.

They walked to Izzie’s car, and Izzie opened the door for Allie. Before Allie could get into the car, Izzie pulled her toward her and kissed her. Izzie’s tongue slipped into Allie’s lips, and Allie fell against her. Izzie snaked her arm around Allie, holding her tight.

“Some people just don’t know how to get a room. The last thing I want to see is two lesbians sticking their tongues down each other’s throats.” A man huffed as he walked by them. Izzie pulled from the kiss and turned to him.

“The last thing I want to hear is some old dude being a prude while I’m out with my girlfriend! Get a life!” Izzie called.

“Izzie, quit it,” Allie muttered, yanking back on Izzie’s shoulder. Izzie turned to Allie, and Allie dropped her gaze.

“This is exactly why I moved away,” Izzie huffed.

“I’m not going to have some ancient asshole spewing homophobia at us when we’re literally existing. Screw him. I bet he’s fucking miserable.”

Allie sighed but dropped her gaze to the ground. Her brows furrowed, and Izzie sensed Allie’s discomfort.

“Allie,” Izzie started.

“Let’s just get out of here,” Allie muttered. She slid into the car and pulled the door behind her.

Izzie fell back, waiting cautiously before hurrying to the car’s other side and entering the driver’s seat. The ride to Allie’s apartment was tense. When Izzie looked over to say something, Allie quickly looked out the window.
