“We’re playing tonight, right?”

“Yes, Mono. Well, at seven in the evening.”

“See, Fernando? How can they make you play at seven p.m. on a Friday? How can the fans that work get to our field at seven on a Friday?”

“It’s not our field, Mono. We’re playing as locals on Racing’s.”

“I know, god damn it! It’s just an expression. Do they make Boca and River play on Fridays?”

“No.”

“You see? They’ve got Sundays. They play on Sunday afternoon because they are the kings, they rule. Only losers play on any old day at any old time. And we bow our heads like the losers we are!”

“Quit getting bent out of shape, you’re gonna hurt yourself. You’re all red, Mono.”

“I’m perfectly fine. I’m calm. I’m perfectly calm. Okay. We’re playing this evening. With who?”

“With Newells.”

“Are you going to watch it?”

“Um … yeah …”

“Why do you say ‘yeah’ with a face like one of your nuts is in a bench vise?”

“What does your face look like when you’ve got one of your nuts in a bench vise?”

“Don’t start. Did you make a pitiful face or not?”

“Uh … let’s just say it is highly likely that they’ll kick our asses.”
