Chapter Seven

“We are arriving,” Boomer called out, he then motioned to his men.

They got up and stood over the prisoners.

“Lower your heads,” Boomer told the men who had been captured.

They all looked confused.

“He said lower them,” Capone barked as he swung a rifle over and pointed it at the men.

They all immediately did as they were told.

Stoker didn’t.

Capone shook his head. “You too, Mr. Stoker.”

The man glared at him.

“Come on man, you cannot see where we are going. You have to understand the need for this,” Boomer told Stoker.

Stoker gave him a nod of respect then lowered his head.

The bus pulled up to the mountain.

Boomer reached for his phone and tapped out a code on the keypad.

As if by magic, the mountain parted and the bus drove in. The interior of the large vehicle went dark for a few seconds as it went through the tunnel then it lit up with sunlight.

The bus pulled up to the main building in the lot.

Capone lowered his gun. “You guys are good to see it now.”

The captured men stared out through the bus windows at the valley, the buildings of the compound and the hills that protected the valley.

Stoker looked up at Boomer. “Where the hell did this come from? Before we... I mean there was nothing ahead on the road but a damn mountain.”

Boomer shrugged “Every man has to have a home. One that is safe from...Men like Keller.”

Pagan smiled down at Grace, who still laid in his lap. “Ok, give me a second and I’ll carry you in.”

Grace shook her head. “I-I think I can walk.”

Pagan disagreed, “You aren’t walking anywhere. Not for a while.” He stood with her in his arms. “Everyone, get out of my way,” he growled.

Everyone did as he’d said and stepped out of the aisle.

Grace covered her face in embarrassment.

He stepped down off the bus with Grace in his arms.

Paula followed closely.

“Why did you do that?” Grace asked him.

“Do what? Put you and your health first?”

She opened her mouth then shut it as her cheeks went red.

He smirked and took her into the compound.

Paula kept close.

“Where is your doc?” Pagan asked Tracker who stood by the double doors.

“Down the hall, third door on your right.”

Pagan walked on down the hallway and entered the room.

The man there saw him and motioned to one of the beds. “Lay her there.”

Pagan did so very gently.

Paula moved up and gazed down at her daughter. “How bad did he hurt you, Gracie?”

Grace shook her head. “Not bad, Mom. Really, you need to stop worrying."

Pagan scoffed at her brushing off how bad a shape she was in and looked over at Doc. “Check her ribs. We think he broke a couple.”

Paula gasped and took her daughter’s hand. “Oh, my god!”

“Mom, calm down, you got beat up too.”

“Yeah, but he hurt you baby.” Tears streamed down her face. “I spent years trying to keep that from happening.”

The doc came over. “You need to help me raise her shirt.” He looked at Paula.

Pagan stepped back.
