HANDPRINT OPPORTUNITIES

Land Protection

15.1 Visit a national park. Bring children. Play by the rules. Help the National Park Service succeed in its dual mission of protecting nature and making it accessible. Find out how the park was created and its needs. Inspire others.

15.2 Support trail building and maintenance. Make it easy to love nature.

15.3 Support indigenous people who protect the land, including Honor the Earth (Great Lakes region of North America), the Pachamama Foundation (the Amazon and the Andes), and the Rainforest Action Network (worldwide).

15.4 Donate to African Parks to help it manage—with national governments and local communities—nineteen national parks in Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.43

15.5 Bequeath your land to a conservation organization like Western Rivers or Nature Conservancy.

15.6 Form a land trust where nature can flourish. Insist that developers set aside a commons that will serve both neighbors and nature.

15.7 Support organizations that protect endangered species. Check out “15 Actions to Protect Endangered Species” on the Endangered Species Coalition (US) website.44 The Nature Conservancy and the World Wildlife Federation, among others, stand for endangered species worldwide.
