The plantation was eerily quiet, something of which Slade and Novak were very much aware. Cautiously, Slade made his way closer to the store, taking cover at every opportunity, while concentrating on his surroundings. The unexpected could wreak total havoc on their mission.

The store was now less than twenty yards away from his position. Along the rear of the structure was one wood door, and one window to its right, covered inside with a single piece of cloth. No light shown from inside.

He pressed the PTT, then barely whispered, "At your two o'clock. Making approach in three."

"Copy."

Three seconds later, taking long strides, Slade hurried to the back of the store, as his eyes swept the area. Reaching the structure, he put his back against the rough, cool adobe wall, holding his Glock with both hands. Sidestepping toward the window, he kept listening for any voices or sounds from inside. So far, nothing. But when he was within arm's reach of the window, he detected soft voices—female voices, speaking in Korean, but there was another sound. Someone was crying. Everything in him said: kill the guard, bust in the door, then haul ass with the girls. But he resisted the urge, reigning in his instinct, realizing the consequences could be devastating for everyone.

Backing away, he scanned the entire area through his NVGs, then without a sound, he ran for cover, retracing his route. Immediately taking a knee behind a palm tree, he pressed the PTT and whispered, "Returning; same route."

"Copy." Novak's eyes remained riveted on the guard, until he heard Slade ordering him to move out. He backed up, meeting Slade at the corner of the building.

After shoving his Glock into his holster, Slade pulled his MP5 over his shoulder, then quietly reported to Novak, "They're in there." He immediately marked the location on the GPS, while they both mentally recorded their surroundings and specific landmarks to report to Grant.

Novak checked his submariner: 0415. If they wanted to find the worker's body, they had to move now. Time was running out. He tapped Slade's shoulder, just as the unthinkable happened.
