Frank knew that I hated him and he did his best, from then on, to get his revenge. When he had his television series, I was hired to guest-star on one of the episodes. I arrived at the studio punctually, as arranged, at eight o’clock. Two hours went by but Sinatra didn’t show up. I walked out. Frank Sinatra had made me wait two hours - which was completely unprofessional.
Sometime after that, I was in Las Vegas, appearing at the Riviera. Frank was appearing at the Sands. One night, I was having dinner with some friends at an Italian restaurant and Frank walked in with Dinah Shore. Frank has a habit of coming up behind someone and blowing on their neck, which I despise. That night, Frank did that to me and I told him to stop, with, “Frank, that’s awful.” Slightly taken aback, he paused, then rallied and said, “Zsa Zsa, why don’t you come over to the Sands one night and at the end of my act, I’ll introduce you and we’ll do a little bit of comedy. Then, I promise you, I’ll come over to the Riviera the next night and do the same for you.”
Frank was a much bigger star than I was, so I went to my bosses at the Riviera and asked if they would let me end my show ten minutes early so that I could go to the Sands and do what Frank had asked, telling them that if I did, Frank would come over and do the same for me the next night. After a lot of persuasion, the bosses agreed. So I went over to the Sands and walked into the auditorium. I was wearing a beautiful white lace dress that Rubi had bought me at Balmain in Paris and Frank greeted me with the taunting words “Here comes Zsa Zsa Grabber. Oh boy, would I like to grab her!”
The next night, I waited at the Riviera for Frank to arrive and return the favor. He never showed up and my bosses - who were paying me $35,000 a week - were furious that I had entertained at the Sands for Sinatra’s audience for free. I was embarrassed and humiliated and knew that this was Frank’s revenge.
But he hadn’t finished with me yet. Years later, when I thought his anger might have subsided, I accepted an invitation from Frank to go to a screening at his house on Mulholland. By then, he was married to Mia Farrow, whom I knew and liked. When we arrived, we all had drinks, then they began screening the film. In the middle, I went to the powder room. And Frank followed me, and pushed his way in, persisting, “My darling, you are so gorgeous and beautiful, I want to make love to you again.” With that, Frank began to undo the buttons on my black silk blouse while I tried to reason with him. “Why are you doing this Frank?” I asked imploringly, “Let’s face it, I don’t like you and you don’t need me.
