Of course, I barely sleep that night. I walk to the window a couple of times to look at the cabin at the back of the property, but there are no lights on. Then I start to question myself. Maybe I didn’t see a light on over there. The hours at Thistle have been long, and I practically collapse into my bed each night, only to wake up a few hours later.

I’ve heard that sleep deprivation can drive you insane, or cause hallucinations at the very least. Is my mind playing tricks on me?

I stare into the darkness. Norah is the other reason I can’t sleep. I showed my hand tonight by threatening to reveal her affair. And her reaction? She laughed. So Devon must know about her and Luis. They must have some type of open marriage.

And why did she allow me to prepare the apple tarte if she was just going to take it off the menu? She could have just said she didn’t like it to my face. I don’t know Norah well, but from what I’ve seen, she doesn’t seem to have a problem voicing her opinion.

Was it jealousy? Surely she isn’t jealous of my cooking. Compared to her, I am nothing. A complete newbie in her world. Just the fact that she let me cook her recipes was an honor. I’m younger than her by ten years, but I’m pretty frumpy relative to her refined good looks.

So why does she hate me so much?

Regardless of what’s in that cabin, there is definitely something strange going on with the Winthrops. Not just the affair between Norah and Luis. Something they are trying to hide.

I crawl into bed and toss and turn for the rest of the night.
