Cleo

"I

nto my office, Cleo," my boss calls from his office just as I walk towards my cubicle.

Just like I thought.

I turn on my heels and walk into his office.

"Sit down," he motions over to his seat, and I see the excitement he's trying to conceal on his face. "Now tell me—how did it go with Mr. Wolfe?" he asks me before I've sat.

"It went well," I tell him as I think of our meeting yesterday.

All day yesterday and this morning, I haven't been able to push him out of my mind.

I've been recalling our conversation over and over, smiling to myself, regretting not lingering to hang out with him.

It's not as if I had a deadline looming, and to make matters worse, the women I was supposed to meet with called me to let me know they couldn't make it.

I thought of texting him to ask him if he wanted to come over, and I actually did write the text, but nerves got the better of me, and I ended up deleting the message and cringing into my pillow.

But I wondered what would have happened if I had invited him over, and he had agreed.

Would we be able to keep our hands off each other?

I don't think we could and I don't mind it one bit.

And I can't believe I'm thinking this, but I look forward to spending time with him later today.

"That's it?" my editor implores, breaking my thoughts from Killian.

"What do you mean?" I raise my eyebrow at him in confusion.

"I need details, Cleo. It's not every day that we feature a big celebrity in our newspaper."

"Well, he agreed to do the interview—he's quite happy to do it, actually. I've prepared the questions to ask him for the feature and will be meeting up with him later today to do the interview."

"Okay, that's good. You'll e-mail me the questions so I know what to expect."

"Sure," I say as I stand.

"And Cleo?"

"Yes?" I pause in my steps to look at him.

"Good job," he tells me with a smile. "This is going to be major for our company."

"And what about the—" As if knowing what I'm going to say, he butts in.

"I'll ensure you get the editor job; you earned it. Not only because we are going to have an exclusive from Killian—something other papers are starving for—but I know you have a vision for this place, and you are going to do amazing things once I retire."

"Thank you,” I smile.

I wish he knew just how much this means to me.

I walk out of his office with a sprint to my steps and walk to my cubicle, and before I can set my bag on my desk, Hank pokes his head into my cubicle. "I heard you got Mr. Wolfe to give us an exclusive."

"How did you know?" I groan. "I thought it was to be kept under wraps until the interview is done?”

"It's a small office—people talk."

"You mean Henry announced that we got Killian. But how did they know I was the one doing it?"

"Henrietta.
